Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
Great game if it ever actually worked online. This game is the only reason I have a ps4 and pay for plus. My brother and I tried to play online against each other on Saturday and after it never working we just gave up.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
Not sure if it's something that changed this year or i never saw it very often last year but i have seen a lot more(still fairly rare) plays where the infielders dive for the ball but they can only get enough glove on it to deflect it. In the past i feel these would have just stuck in the glove or the dive wouldn't get near the ball and it would be a routine single and while they have all resulted in base hits it just adds a bit of variety to hits.
In past versions i would see the fielders deflect the ball when they dived and it hit a part of there body but don't remember them getting there gloves to it and not holding onto it.Comment

My biggest complaint is that I haven't had enough time to play since the game droppedThis 'work' think keeps getting in the way...
I don't play online, so I guess I'm insulated from those issues, and I play a pretty simple game (I'm not as young as I once was) so I don't get too deep into all the bells and whistles, but I'm loving what I'm seeing so far.
Hitting feels great aside from the nagging "doubles down the line" issue. Pitching is great (I use Classic...don't judge), and I feel like I'm walking a few more than ever before (which is a good thing).
Graphics are great, but I do agree that it is time for some kind of upgrade on the players...whether it be new models, or even 'cloth physics'. Does anyone else feel like they fell in love with the new PBR? Some stuff just looks too shiny (jersey numbers and helmets come to mind)...it looks great for most of it, but there are just a few things that are over done IMO.
Anyways, Great Job as always SCEA! Keep it comingComment

Let's face it. This rollout of this game as been a disaster. We have not gotten what we paid for. Some guys can't even start playing because of bugs. This year's version has been a step backwards. I'll remember this next year when I'm being wowed by their live streams and videos.Comment

I'm starting to get nothing but connection failed when trying to play DD now. Last night I tried for like 15 mins before I gave up & this was about 11pm PST. Sucks that this is happening because I really want to like this game..."In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
I've been a Show junkie since '12. While I will continue to play the game I'm somewhat disappointed with what I've experienced so far.
Game play is somewhat choppy in some stadiums but plays fine in others. I'm guessing that it's the frame rate that some heads are referencing.
Some parts of the presentation still seem truncated. I assumed that with the addition of hybrid presentation we would have the full broadcast experience as a choice like in past iterations. I don't like the game rushing me if I don't want to rush; isn't that what the 'X' button is for?
Some of the player models look pretty bad. Some look transparent while others look way too dark (Eric Aybar, Melky Cabrera and Nelson Cruz come to mind). Also, I decided to try the franchise carryover feature for the first time. Won't be doing that again. First, the rosters were all jacked up. I had premier players Josh Reddick and Josh Hamilton end up with their respective team's single a affiliate. How does that happen?? Secondly some players that transferred ended up being a "hybrid race", African American from the neck down with a random caucasian face (sorry 'bout that). Delmond Young is an example...he was still with the O's in my franchise. I'm guessing because he and the others are not on teams in '16. I thought that guys like that ended up in the FA pool, or at the very least assigned a fake name that could be edited.
When I heard the SOTS was being introduced to the PS4 platform I was ecstatic and immediately bought the newer console. I realize that for most SOTS is not a big deal, but for me it's huge! While overall I'm glad it's back I was very disappointed with what I've experienced so far:
Pregame music doesn't always play for certain teams.
Individual and team chants do not play randomly (as they should) like in previous iterations. The simply play in the order they appear on the cue list with no element of surprise, which us especially bad for personal chants.
Base hit music plays all of 2 seconds at a very low volume(I boosted all of my sounds). What's the most disappointing is that the hit music in '14 ps3 didn't work at all and was never addressed or fixed, which is what I'll assume will happen here too.
I've never had a problem hitting, but I am finding getting base hits a chore. I'll just write that off as me still getting acclimated to this version of the game.
The stadiums over are beautiful! I really agree that the stadiums have taken huge leaps forward.
I just started playing online a few months ago (I bought a '15 version on the cheap in anticipation of '16). Looking forward to seeing how it plays.

Have to say I am pretty disappointed with the new precision input hitting engine.
I was under the impression that this would mean contact with the baseball would only be made if the ball was located within the PCI but sadly I don't see any difference from previous years.
Pitches can still be fouled off when the PCI misses for both users and CPU plus there is still the odd hit in there as well.Comment

Man, the slower pitch speed is really starting to kill me. Every year it gets slower and slower, and this year its finally gotten way too slow. Anything off speed feels like forever before it gets the plate, and I'm constantly pulling both fastballs and offspeed pitches into the seats.
I'm sure it helps those with t.v's with awful latency and input lag, but it's gotten to the point where its too slow.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
While it's true that in the vast majority of cases competition will bring out the best results both for economic efficiency and consumer surplus, there are rare instances where less competition is actually more economically efficient. Sometimes so much to the extreme that a monopoly is actually the most economically efficient option.
This economic phenomenon occurs when either:
The market is very small (niche market)
The barrier to entry is very high (the initial investment of capitol, skilled labour or both in order to break into the industry is staggeringly high)
So here we have a niche market video game. I think that covers BOTH phenomenon.
If you want another example of how competition can be bad, please refer to the American airline industry.
Sorry folks for going so off topic, but I felt it was time teach some economics.Comment
