Directional vs Zone vs Pure analog

I am having a tough time deciding my interface for this years game. Id like to hear your guys opinion on what you use and your justification for that over the rest. Thanks in advance.

Re: Directional vs Zone vs Pure analog

I've been a pure analogue hitter since its inception but in the last month replaying 15 and starting 16 I have moved to directional with analogue stride.

With pure analogue I found that I had no control of where the ball was going and seemed to hit a lot of lazy flies or choppers in front of the plate. Also, it seems like most of my good contact hits were all the same.

With the switch to directional i'm seeing a lot more variable hits. Also it's easier to hit the ball to the right side to move players over and hit the ball in the air for sac flies. Also, I find it's a bit easier to pull the ball rather than just trying to swing early.

The easiest is just pressing X and making contract, it's less confusing and more simple as all you have to do is read the ball and swing.

Zone has me shouting, "back...back...back...HEY HEYYY!!!" the most often.

Zone allows me to play at the highest level I'm capable of (that is, I can usually reach and maintain HOF hitting on Dynamic difficulty).

The other two options allow the CPU more input into my swing, and it usually decreases the effectiveness of my hitting. I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all - it means the game is more ratings-driven with those two modes.

I think you hit it right on the mark zone is ratings can influence you more in those two while zone is more for a challenging player who maybe isn't concerned with ratings too much.

I used zone a lot more in the minors then once I got my ratings up I stopped using and eventually stopped using directional too and was only using analog which is what I use now and it works more for me because I got my ratings way up.

good thread topic.. I'm trying to decide this for myself.. what to use in the online league I'm in.

I'm testing zone and directional so far

I haven't tried analog yet but will.

I need to give directional another go after understanding it more now but so far after one long night with the game.. I like zone hitting the best. I seem to do better with it and because I guess I like the control over the zone my bat is swinging thru...

I mainly want to chose the right interface that is best for online if that makes sense if that matters.

In past editions i would've said directional, but I think this is a good year to use zone. I haven't used zone for almost 5yrs but with the precision input changes its almost a must and im loving it so far.

Re: Directional vs Zone vs Pure analog

Years ago I was always zone. This past few years I've been mostly the setup that has the most ratings based. Auto field etc..
I throw however. Basically a hybrid of a manage only type deal.
I save user input settings for RTTS ..

I may do some zone this year though.

Re: Directional vs Zone vs Pure analog

I've spent hours in batting practice trying to figure this one out.

Zone seems to be the best IF you can use it properly. It's really tough though.

I was using Pure analog for a while and almost settled on it. It got me good results and made me more patient, but I didn't find it very comfortable either mentally or physically, so I wanted to move on.

At first I thought Directional was a steaming pile of terrible, but I liked the concept the best and felt it worked the best with my skill level. So I beat it into submission with sliders until it worked the way I liked it, and now it is by far my favourite hitting mode.

Is directional hitting still the old "timing" hitting if you don't choose a direction? I knew it was last year.

I was a zone/meter(or pulse) guy for a long time

As time has gone on I've changed and transitioned to classic pitching snd timing (directional) hitting, auto fielding, full broadcast camera and presentation, and taking everything off the screen that I can. For me it feels so authentic and ratings driven, it's heaven

But I love that The Show has so much to offer everyone, so many options and all of them are viable. I wish every sports game took the same approach

I've been a zone hitter the past couple of years, but this year im switching to directional.

I love how all I have to focus on is timing, and the rest will take care of itself. With zone, I can almost never hit anything high and inside, or low and away. With the directional, it takes care of that for me.

Plus, the game just looks more realistic without a big reticle in the middle of the screen.

This is a great topic to discuss every year, and it always amazes me how many different preferences and strategies there are. It depends on what mode you play too and how much thought you want to put into your plate appearances.

I play mostly online in DD, and the last two years I have used zone with the PCI off. This year I'm going zone with the PCI on. It's the toughest option, but if you can master it and get a good game plan going at the plate, it's by far the most rewarding and gives you the highest ceiling. I believe there's a consensus that most of the top online players use zone.
