Since I can't post new threads yet... speaking of base running; they need to address for the Show 17 BR responsiveness. The way it is now, you'll NEVER win a pickle (and hard to retreat in general); because the runner doesn't respond to the button push immediately, and when he does change direction there's a mandatory like 2 or 3 steps he takes before doing so. When you want someone to retreat so they dont get picked off or doubled up, you want them turning on a dime (think suicide drills) and doing back.

Since I was complaining so hard (but with good reason), I wanted to come on and say that after playing 10-15 games since the most recent patch, it did seem to fix a lot of things with auto. Its not perfect still, and the game still will not go AUTO in a number of circumstances (its more like heavy assist), but its much improved. A guy on first base will run to 3rd on a ball thats not hit right to an OF, including on a hit & run (which was the original problem that I had when this all started). And a man on second will try to score on a double, while the guy who hit the ball will run to second on his own, instead of the user having to micro manage every move.

A lot of positive moves, and I wanted to give props to the devs for continuing to work on what went wonky.

I love this game, but assisted sliding needs major work. I posted a clip a month ago, but I now present a better example.

Bottom of the 8th, 2 outs, tied game. Classic base running.

90 Spd Leonys Martin at 2nd, and he slides into 3rd on a rope hit out to right field. In no universe does that runner need to slide into 3rd. Even with no outs and the ball being fielded, the play is to 1B 100% of the time.

Assisted sliding mistakes happen too often and it is the biggest gameplay issue this game has, in my opinion. It has little benefit to the user and this year only causes problems in my experience. I feel like the problem is bad enough to warrant its own 10+ page thread. I've seen people (including myself) explained away saying you're bumping a button or something after the hit, but this is simply not the case.

I've seen it posited that it makes a difference if the ball bounces in the in-field, but I can also tell you that doesn't matter. For video proof you can probably find the last example I posted in my youtube account, or several pages back in this thread.

This is different from the times where we thought someone was accidentally hitting L1 - that only matters when we talk about the runner's behavior the moment contact was made. Two completely unrelated things.

I will say this in regards to whether there's a bug or not - IF that was a slide, it was a poor AI decision to do so. I can't tell from the video whether it was a slide or a breakdown, but I'll take your word that it was a slide. To be honest, the way the runner took a weird angle off the 3rd base line after passing 3rd made me think it was a breakdown/sudden startup again. Again, I'll take your word for it though because it doesn't matter either way.

Here's the core of this problem, and why this would have happened regardless of what the runner did on his way into 3rd. This is the last frame I could screenshot where the "3rd" command is still displayed - instructing the runner to stop at 3rd:



At this point I can all but guarantee you that the runner is already beginning a slide or a breakdown into third. In other words, it's too late for your input to direct a smooth running motion into home. I'm pretty sure neither of those can be cancelled into an acceleration back to full speed (I know a slide can't, obviously) so that animation has to finish before the game will accept and carry out another input.

To go a step further, the moment the runner's icon changes from a Triangle (2nd/3rd) to a Square (3rd/Home) is when he touches 3rd. That's the point at which the game will allow him to start accelerating again.

My point is that, whether this was a slide or a breakdown, your input to run home came far too late.

It was definitely a slide. As a victim of this glitch dozens of times, you hear that sliding in the dirt sound that plays. Plus they have to stand back up before they run...

Also, that screen showing 3rd you screencapped...I can assure you I was furiously sending the home command well before that. Unfortunately the game will decide to slide on contact it seems. Nothing I can do about it.

Edit: For what it's worth they closed the bug and said they are continuing to investigate base running in general. I know this stuff isn't easy so I'm satisfied it was acknowledged. I won't continue bumping this thread and just enjoy the game as is because it's still a great game.

One of my main gripes is the baserunning, its just awful IMO.

Here I get a hit and immediately highlight my baserunner to send him home, problem is it apparently doesn't register my command. As you can see it cost me a easy run.

Here I get a hit and I wanted to go from 1st to 3rd but as you can see for some reason Fowler gets stuck in a animation preventing me from going to 3rd.

Here I have a 3-2 count w/2outs, so I send my runner. for some reason my runner stops mid way w/2outs.

Last sliding-assist video, I swear. This one illustrates the problem effectively since you can see the runner the whole way so I thought it might be helpful.

Look how early I'm mashing Triangle-Down to go home on this hit. You can see the game completely disregards my inputs until the slide is completed; in which case it briefly changes to "Home" before I have to return him to 3rd.

Fortunately, there was a happy ending which I included.
