Player Lock - Closer

Have played MLB The Show for several years and just downloaded 16. But as silly as this sounds I just can't get player lock to work this year - I want to only play as a closer in either season mode or a single one off game. Each time I use R2 on the PS4 controller the player lock icon appears to the side of the player but then shows me I have to use him as the starter. Completely my fault. I know it's something simple. Can some kind soul just walk me through this and put me out of my misery. Thanks

I suspect you have to Player Lock the SP, sim until closer comes in and you should control him?

Great. Thank you. Is there an easy way to see, during a sim when the closer is going to appear or do I just sim until near the end?

After it says "you are starting someone not a starter", just go into it like you normally would. If your player comes in, you'll play it...but if team never goes to closer it will auto Sim to end.

Thank you. I'll probably also start a career in RTTS as a closer. Just wish I could skip the first part of it and go straight into being drafted into a AAA or MLB team. Is this possible?

After it says "you are starting someone not a starter", just go into it like you normally would. If your player comes in, you'll play it...but if team never goes to closer it will auto Sim to end.

PS3 here but I tried that the other day (locked a reliever) and it wouldn't let me pass the starting P screen. Hit X on the starter, warning message appeared, hit X, returned me to starting P screen.

The last few years I've played as the closer with player lock on. Now I just tried to do it on this years game and it won't allow me to start the game. Bull****!!! Pissed

You might have to use the new feature, the in game player lock. Try starting the game with no player lock, then going into the menu, selecting the closer and player locking him. Not sure it will work but just a suggestion.

I tried that once and it let me do it but set him as the SP.

I figured it out.

Make sure you have the closer assigned to player lock on the pitching rotation page

Then when you go into the game when it won't allow you to go into the game with the closer player locked hit R2 on the player to take off the player lock. Hit X on that days starting pitcher. If the closer pitches that game that's who you will be. No other player.

Yeah player lock got a lot of things removed this year. I would understand if things weren't working but it worked for two years MLB 14 and MLB 15. It's watered down now!

Sorry to bump an old topic but in The Show 18 how can I player lock a closer in franchise mode ? Is this not possible at all anymore ?

Not possible , only way is to simulate in game.. until I may be time for save opportunity and just play as CP with auto fielding on. Then obviously sim at bats.
