Resting a player with the designated back up?

I'm curious what the rest of you were doing. I'm playing with the Blue Jays who have Donaldson at third-base obviously. In the game he has no designated back up. The other backups at first and second base and shortstop Do not have second positions listed as third-base.

In this case do you guys just play somebody not designated to play a specific position to rest a guy or do you like to trade or move up somebody from the minors or pick up a free-agent?

Last year I signed Everth Cabrera to play as a back up to Tulowitzki in my Colorado Rockies franchise. Was thinking maybe to do the same thing with the Jay's, not sure.

Does Darwin Barney have 3rd listed as a position?

Last year I would have just thrown in a infielder to play 3B for a game but not this year, I would sign a free agent for cheap or just bring someone up from AAA

Whoever plays there in real life I would edit his 2nd position in the player edit screen.

Donaldson Started 150 games at the hot corner in 2015 & his in-game durability rating is a 97, so he should be able to play everyday until the 40 man roster kicks in come September.
Plus, if you just HAVE to give him a day off before then, play him at DH, move Encarnacion or Bautista to third for a game or two. They have thirdbase at their secondary position. You have so many option if you are willing to play outside the box.

No, & he hasn't really played third since 2010.

EDIT not at the Major League level, anyways. Sure, he played 3rd at AAA last year, though.
