    Prospect/Draft Relievers Still Weak?

I don't know if anyone has progress through drafts yet, but I was just looking at my franchise (in year 7, carry over) and relievers are terrible.

It's so bad, starters are occupying bullpen roles, which isn't good for morale (now that players have preferred/expected usage).

Some teams have 3 relievers on the roster: 2 closers and a "regular" RP. The other 8 slots are SP with 3 of them in bullpen.

I was wondering why Kershaw is coming out of the pen when I last played the Dodgers. Well their SP rotation is stacked to heck (good lord it's scary). And they have 10 SP up, 5 of them in the bullpen (including Kershaw who got smacked with declines somewhere - remember I'm in 2021)

At least the AI GM's are starting to recognize that relief "talent" in the league is godawful. I might have to start changing positions from SP (and CP) to RP.

Is this still a thing in MLB16? Can I look forward to actual good non-SP and non-CP relievers?

If not, I better come up with some idea on what to do, then!

I haven't seen that with new franchises and live rosters.

Honestly a lot of good relievers are just failed starters anyway.

That's encouraging to hear. Maybe things will reverse themselves going forward.

        True.

I think I'll go around shifting some these SP to RP. Wish I could edit the FA pool. Probably get guys some jobs and teams to bulk up their pens if I could.

I guess I could sign them, edit, then cut (or trade for scrubs) if need be.

Aroldis Chapman was a starter in Cuba, never materialized as one in the Majors though. There are tons of examples, and while I'd agree that the Show probably doesn't handle this the best way I'd say it's far from game breaking.

Agreed. Most guys come up as starters but don't do so hot once they get there. It seems like we could manually edit SPs who aren't doing fantastic and have them as middle relievers instead.
BFR's future is still TBD, stay tuned for updates

Yeah for an example, look at Baltimore's bullpen. It's loaded with ex-high ranking prospect starters like matusz and britton.

Not "game breaking" but as poor as these relievers are, makes it too easy to come from behind in franchise games at least in mine. Nothing like seeing a guy with 40's and 50's out there to hold a 1-run lead.

At least the teams are trying to help their bullpens and demoted them after a some games went by. Guess they were getting killed in the sim engine too.

Yeah, I'm looking through the franchise now raising the few actual relief prospects up to be competitive/have a chance to develop better, and checking on the SPs. Looking at guys with borderline stamina, one developed pitch, and/or are struggling/set into bullpens already on their roster.

It does kind of suck that pitchers have defined SP, RP and CP. instead of RHP and LHP, then you have to pay attention to their stamina rating and determine where they play. It would make this process much easier
