I start it where the ball comes out of the pitchers hand and follow it from there. Using catcher high cam.

Re: PCI placement
Did you stick with it? How long before you got the hang of it?
I tried it again last night, but in Plate discipline. Didn't go so well. After that I tried Good at-bat and I just can't track the pitches. I hit a couple of doubles and dingers but that was when figured out where the pitcher most likely would put it.
I really want to be able to use Zone and eliminate the randomness of Directional hitting but so far it's not going well.Comment

Re: PCI placement
Personally what I do is leave it center with my thumb of that joystick when there are no strikes. If there is a meatball down the center il swing... If not I am taking until strike 1. I have to leave my thumb off the joystick because I too have the problem of pulling down on the stick when swinging. Once I have one strike on me I will pick a pitch location (95% of the time high) and hold the PCI there before the pitch is even thrown. Most times I will not swing unless in this zone (sometimes I will find myself tracking here if it looks inviting). Thats my sort of "realistic" version of guess pitch. I am looking for a ball in one specific zone. Once I get to two strikes I start with PCI in center and react. This is the method that works for me. As long as I dont get swing happy (which happens far too oftern) I get realistic counts and walks so I like this method, but it definitely takes practice to track pitches.

You're probably right. Right now I'm using MLB16 and I sit 8 ft away from a 37" TV. I'll give Catcher high a go!

I spent many training points, too many in fact, on plate vision, contact and power just to see if that would remedy the problem with Directional. It did not except for the fact that every dinger is a no doubter.Comment

That sounds pretty good! I will definitely try that tonight. At least it's something until we learn how to track pitches right? It's a bit of a shame because I was getting really good with my plate discpline when using Directional. I had a 10% walk rate and that's pretty good coming from a guy who used to swing at almost everything!

Re: PCI placement
Yeah the nice thing about that system too is you get better at reading pitches and specific pitched that pitcher is throwing. Often times on 1 strike counts when I am aiming high I take something low and I am surprised its a ball! Helps me alot with my recognition for the rest of the gameComment

Re: PCI placement
View makes a big difference. I find any view where the pitcher is zoomed or looks closer is best. I use retro zoomed in and the top of the strikezone at the front of the pitchers hat or so.
Then with my PCI I keep it in the middle with it slightly down or slightly "waggleing" the PCI like a bat, for some reason it keeps my thumb engaged better. I try to watch the ball right out of the pitchers hand and react. If it's not a meatball on first pitch I try to just take the pitch. As the count changes I have to adapt of course. Look dead red if nothing else to stop swinging at bad pitches.Last edited by Cito2009; 04-12-2016, 01:50 PM.Comment

Re: PCI placement
When I play online, I start it wherever my hitting zone is blue and then react to the placement of the pitch. People throw to the cold zone the majority of the time.Green Bay Packers

Re: PCI placement
Here is a youtube video of me hitting back to back to back jacks and it shows how I go about zone hitting.

Re: PCI placement
I am doing something kind of like that. I am doing fisheye zoomed in some and lowered some. It is working while. I can see pitches better then with default fisheye but I can still see the baselines.Comment

I finally got it! Did just like you said and it went great. I think one mistake I made before was to react too early on pitches and that made me jerk the PCI. Now I went in with the mindset "don't do too much - take a walk".
In one game I faced a pitcher for the second time in one inning with the bases loaded and one out. He was very wild and all I thought was if I draw a walk I won't hit into a DP. Maybe not the best mindset when you're the cleanup hitter BUT: On a 2-0 count he threw a fastball right down the middle and I got a hold of that ball. A grand slam that went 455 feet into the windows in Minute Maid Park's left center field. So awesome. And it felt like I did it, not the randomness of Directional hitting. I drew two walks in the other games too so the patience is definitely there.
Another thing I did was to never guess a pitch type. Before, and I'm kinda ashamed to say it, I used to guess 4SFB in hitter's counts and if I got it, great. The problem with that is the tendency to swing as soon as you hear the blip. Now it was all location. And timing of courseLast edited by rollerpig79; 04-13-2016, 05:33 AM.Comment

PCI placement
I actually turn the PCI off bc it seems to distract me a bit and I like a clean screen.
But I start out holding my PCI up just a bit in the upper/mid part of the strike zone and then adjust towards the pitch as it comes in.Comment

Re: PCI placement
One thing I constantly struggle with is hitting the swing button a split second before I move the PCI. It's like my right hand thumb finger has a faster reaction time from my brain, haha. When this happens, obvioulsy the PCI doesn't move to where I want it to when I swing, because I have already swung.
Some times I really have to concentrate on making sure I move first and swing second. The muscle memory is getting better.
Also, like others have started, I took the fish eye camera and move it slightly down do it's more centered in the middle of the strike zone. Helps me with low pitches.Comment
