Discussion: CPU Bullpen Management and Aggressiveness

Okay, I have played enough games and began to notice two trends in the computer.

The first trend I see is the awful bullpen usage from the computer. I just had a four game series against KC in my Astros franchise.

First game: Down by one in the ninth, they bring in four pitchers (Gee, Duffy, Soria, Davis) instead of just bringing in Wade Davis to close it.

Fourth game: it goes into 15 innings, instead of using a long man (which I assume is Gee) for multiple innings, they use him for one and Wade Davis for three innings. He threw almost 50 pitches and had zero energy.

I feel like even with using the Manager Hook slider, the CPU still does an awful job with the bullpen, and it really takes from the immersion of the game.

The second part of the discussion is the aggressiveness from runners trying to score from third when they have no chance of making it. I think in 10 games of my Astros franchise, I have thrown out at least 8-10 batters because they have no reason going.

Is anyone else noticing these two trends or is it just me?

Your second observation I see quite a bit, I even posted a vid of it in another thread.

Yes, unfortunately it is still an issue. I posted my thoughts somewhere in this thread

I agree. CPU pen management has never been perfect but it seems this year has taken a step back from MLB 2015. Not only does the CPU seem hesitant in bringing in the closer in save situations, it also has a knack for burning through the pen so quickly, to the point it runs out of relievers.

I haven't seen horrible bullpen AI. Actually the Orioles brought in a lefty to face Stephen Vogt in the 6th with runners in scoring position in my last game. Never would see that in years past. Although I did have a situation where the CPU should have brought in the long reliever but left the set up man out there until the 11th.

I am seeing though that the CPU almost never wants to pull starters even when their stamina is low. One way I can see this being rectified is getting manager personalities with each team having a manager who treats pitchers differently (leave them in, pull them early, go to the bullpen constantly, etc.)
