The National League & the DH
I don't know why everyone is so against the DH. I'd imagine it helps players last longer. Players who can't field as well but can still hit can still play and pitchers don't have to worry about getting injured by hitting or base running.
Is there any other league where the rules are that much different than the other league?MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

I'm a National League guy. I think it presents a better brand of baseball that is more true to the sport in its Golden Days. I mean the American League was founded in 1901 and it wasn't until 1973 that they adopted the DH. So for 70 years they had the pitcher hit.
Look I know the game advances, I mean some of the first rules allowed you tag runners out by hitting them with the baseball, but in my humble opinion the addition of the DH was not one of the better advancements of the game.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: The National League & the DH
I don't like the DH because I think it takes away from the strategy that comes with having to decide what to do with pitcher in certain situations, regarding when to pinch hit or when to leave him in the game and let him hit.

The National League & the DH
I just don't see how you have different rules in baseball. Either both should have it or neither should.
It's hard to relate to another sport but what if the NFC had 15 yards to get a first down vs the AFC having 10 yards? Would people be ok with that because of tradition or more strategy?MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: The National League & the DH
Baseball is a business. Scoring sells tickets. With the DH you'll score more runs and be able to watch your favorite player play longer.
I believe advanced baseball stats say hitting is better than fielding. You can overcome a bad fielder with good hitting. I would say statistically a AL team would beat a NL team because they have an extra good hitter that the NL team wouldn't usually have. Prince Fielder is probably a good example of this. He's a good hitter but do you really want to waste a 1B slot on him?MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: The National League & the DH
CFL only gets 3 downs to make a first instead of 4.
CFL has a 55 yard line.
CFL has 12 players on a team instead of 11.
You can get a point for punting in the CFL.
I'd love it if the Blue Jays were part of a large Canadian contingent of baseball teams in their own, third league.
Them crazy Canadians would probaly come up with something off the wall, if left to their own devices.
I'd imagine something like 5 bases instead of 4.
A DF in addition to a DH. Designated Fielder, plays defense only, doesn't bat.
10 innings instead of 9.
If a pitcher can't get you out on a maximum of, say 12 pitches, the batter is automatically awarded 1st base.
And lastly, the coup de grace . Square baseballs.

I am an AL fan and love the DH, but I also love that the NL doesn't have it. I happen to love this difference between the leagues. It adds great variety to the brand of ball being played.Comment

Re: The National League & the DH
I always play with DH on for both leagues, regardless of which league I'm playing as.
I'm an NL fan mostly but I prefer pitching decisions to be based on performance and fatigue more than a desire to score runs. I hate it when a pitcher's gone 6 strong innings with like 80 pitches and a manager pulls him for a pinch hitter because the score is close.Comment
