Do you wait for your pitch or hit whats pitched to you?
I'm having a hard time with hitting and have been using guess pitch on fastballs to train with but since I've taken that off I'm lost. If I wait for a high fastball I usually strike out looking, should I just be swinging at anything he's throwing?

I always try to work the count. I will only swing at fastballs down the middle on the first strike. I rarely swing at breaking stuff early in the count (i.e. with no strikes).

I typically look fastball in one of my hitters hotzone on the first pitch of the AB. Then after that, I look for what I think the pitcher will throw next and where. The only time I go after what is thrown is when I have two strikes.

Since you're struggling I want to offer up a suggestion. Don't forget to use the Batter Analysis screen. This allows you to see how each of your batters is being pitched. Is the pitcher staying away, throwing hard stuff or offspeed, etc...

It will give you something to look for each AB with each hitter. Great tool!

Stop using Guess Pitch. That is the start to truly becoming a solid hitter on The Show.


0-0 count your looking for one spot. For me it is middle/in

1-0, 2-0 same thing. Fastball counts.

1-1, 2-1, I hope if he decides to throw a change or slider or curve..sinker..whatever...he hangs it. Then I will crush it.

I always look fastball and react to breaking/changeup pitches.

When your behind the count 0-2, 1-2 use the contact swing and fight off anything close to work the count back into your favor or get to 2-2 at least.

Be selective on 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-1 - that is when you should be looking for your spot...otherwise it's a take.

Buy having a consistent approach I can assure you over time you will draw walks, and make much better contact.

If I'm being honest, I take the Stan Musial approach to hitting as described by Curt Food, "You get a strike, and you knock the heck out of it."

Are you using zone or directional? I find to truly become a good hitter early in this game its best to dive in to zone. I Posted my strategy in the PCI placement thread. When I used directional I tend to try to swing at everything in the zone and draw no walks. With zone I have much better ABs.

I generally look for a specific pitch to hit in a specific location. Once I get to 2 strikes, it's pretty much see ball, hit ball and put it in play. It's the main reason why I've never struck out 100 times in a season and walked more than 100 times in said season.

I only use guess pitch for pitches I don't want to see. That's usually the curveball.

I have trouble reading low pitches so when I play the CPU I ALWAYS guess pitch fastball low.About once an inning I'll get that pitch I guess and try and crush it. I know it sounds lame but it works for me lol.
