When your infielder has a ball hit to him and can't pick it up cleanly, sometimes he'll pick the ball up out of the dirt right away, but then won't do anything until after the runner reaches first, no matter how much time he has left to make the play.
This happens most often with a 2B or SS kicks the ball, and then refuses to throw the ball to first base, often missing out on at least a close call, if not getting the runner out. Then, once he's made it to first, I have control of the fielder again, and can do whatever.
Yesterday though, I had it happen with my first baseman. A ball was hit hard right to him and he knocked it down but didn't get it cleanly. He bent over and picked it up with plenty of time to make the play, but even though he was only a step away from the bag, he wouldn't move to get the out and just stood there and watched as the runner made it safely. Then he ran to the base.
So my question is, "Is this a bug? Is it common? Or is it something that's been programmed intentionally to simulate players reacting slowly or having to gather their thoughts after making an error. I cannot remember this ever happening to the CPU when I hit the ball either. Always just to me in the field.
