    Hit type questions (NORMAL,POWER,CONTACT)

    Hi,

I get confused with 3 hitting types: POWER, NORMAL, and CONTACT. I've been playing as following:

Power hitters = Use Power until 2 strikes, then use Normal.
Non-power hitters = Use Normal until 2 strikes, then use Contact.

Would I still get a HR even if I use Contact for Power hitters? It looks like AI is using contact most of the time. What's the norm for using hitting buttons for any players at any situations?

How do you guys play and what should be the typical situations for real players?

For me (keep in mind I play on HOF Zone) -

Normal: Almost all the time. The only exceptions are what I'll list below.

Power: 2-0, 3-0, 3-1 counts (on occasion, and depending on the hitter). VERY high chance of swing and miss. If I'm swinging like this I'm looking for one pitch in one spot, and if I get it, I'm hitting it hard.

Contact: Situational hitting - sac fly, infield groundout to score a runner from 3rd, or any other situation where I absolutely cannot strike out. Does not include regular 2-strike counts - I swing normal on those.

^Contact freaks me out when trying to sac fly. I feel like if I don't use normal I'll nub it to the first basemen or something.

I use power and normal. I'd say Power about 60% of the time

I think I have a bit better success, assuming the guy can get it out there deep enough.

Those nubbers seem to come on normal for me. Or popups.

It's very situational. It depends on count, also. Usually i start with normal. Then i switch contact/power if i'm behind/ahead in the count. Sometimes i find contact very useful, especially with less than 2 outs and a runner in third base ( but none on first, double play risk ) or when i want a sac fly. Or i simply stick with my batter type, if i have a contact player i'll use contact, otherwise normal or power with power hitters. I also like with some players to do very aggressive at-bats ( especially against relievers or when starting pitchers loose control ), in this case i'll power swing the first pitch if it's in the strikezone.

I take pretty much the exact same approach.

I use pure analog (w/stride) on HOF when playing offline. And I'll even go stretches where I use normal swings exclusively, with the exception of maybe a handful of contact swings.

                Re: Hit type questions (NORMAL,POWER,CONTACT)

I'm pretty aggressive. I use power swing almost every at-bat with power hitters. It's probably easier to talk about the times where I DON'T use power swing:

During a hit-and-run or stolen base attempt
When I'm hitting with the pitcher (only sometimes... I've even taken Power Swings with Noah Syndergaard)
When there are 2 outs and a runner on base
When I'm losing (or tied and on the road), AND at least one of the following:
                ---- it's the 8th inning or later
---- there are 2 strikes against me
                ---- there are 2 outs

                Yeah that's it...

The only prime exception is that if I feel a hitter (or my team) is slumping, then I won't use power swing with them at all.

Part of it is the team I'm playing with is the Mets. They are a home run heavy team anyway, and don't have a lot of speed. Also I have two hitters in the running for a home run title: Wilmer Flores is in 2nd place with 31 HRs. Curtis Granderson is in 6th or 7th with like 26.

I've never won a HR title so I'm kinda pushing it. Plus, home runs are fun!

Really, the majority time that I use contact is when I'm batting with a pitcher & I have 2 strikes (and less than 2 out) and am trying to move a runner from second to third.

This is pretty much what I do. Only variation is, if I'm way behind in the count, like 0-2 and 1-2, I may use contact swing with even a power hitter.
