    Cut off throw L1 question

This option has been in the game for the last two years. But I have yet to be able to get the option to work as I believe it is intended. For example, if the opposing team has a runner on second and there is a base hit to right field, the first baseman should move in position to cut off my throw home, which he does. But if I try to throw home and then hit L1 after I've thrown the ball, the ball always goes through to home instead of being cut by the first baseman. What am I doing wrong?

Are you getting the L1 prompt? If you are and are hitting it in a timely fashion I'm not sure what's going on though.

If you aren't getting that prompt it means the cutoff man either isn't in position or the throw was too erratic to be cut off.

I'm ecstatic they brought it back and will admit it's still a bit clunky at times but I'm just happy to have it.

I don't think I have ever seen the cut off throw prompt. But it does not make sense that over the last two years a single one of my players hasn't been in position to cut the throw. This year in particular since the throws tend to be more on line. I usually just hit the L1 when I think the throw should be cut but it never cuts the throw.

Sorry man, don't know how to help then.

I've had no issues with either.

I use autofielding. I wonder if it has anything to do with it?

Yea I have no problems with it. Like stated the only times I don't get the prompt to cut it off is when my player isn't in position to cut it off, but when you do get the prompt it's super quick so you gotta have your finger ready to hit L1 as soon as you see it

Thanks. Maybe I'm just missing it. I'll try to be more on the lookout.

It's pretty large and in the center, very top of the screen.

I also use auto fielding and was wondering why I couldn't do that this year. Now I know.

Yes, that feature for some unknown reason does not work with auto-fielding. It was also like that in '15.

Correct, this feature does not work with AutoFielding ON because that option indicates that you want the AI to make the fielding decisions for you.

Thanks. Yes..but cutoff should not be tied to AutoFielding. AutoFielding implies fielding the ball. I still control where the ball is thrown. Hence, I should also be able to control when to cut the ball. As it currently works, the outfielder too often hits cutoff man when the ball should go thru. This results in too many runs being scored that could result in outs. I like to send the ball home and then cut if I feel I can't get runner out at home. But almost every time I do this, the runner on 1st advances to 2nd, as he should. I hope next year you either give us ability to cut the throw on AutoFielding or adjust the AI. Thanks.

You have to press L1 as the base button. Instead of hitting x to throw home, press L1. Then redirect the throw once the cut off catches it.

I am not understanding you. You control where you are throwing, but the AI hits the cutoff too often...? But when you throw it home, then the runner behind advances...?

The concept of AutoFielding is that you do NO fielding. Once you pick a throw target (if you do not have AutoThrowing ON) you are done. Choosing to cut a throw is a fielding decision...not a throwing decision.

I understand your point. It certainly can be argued that whether the AI cuts a throw is a fielding decision. And, as you put it, I don't disagree. But this is why I said give us more control of the cutoff throw in AutoFielding or you should improve the AI.

As the current AI works, it makes too many poor cut decisions. In fact, I've never seen it cut a ball I (user) send home from outfield when it should be cut. For instance, if runner is on 2nd and base hit to deep center, and the runner on 2nd attempts to go home. If Dexter Fowler is in deep center and I direct Fowler to throw home, the AI will not cut my throw even though Fowler does not have arm strength to get out runner from center. The batter will advance to 2nd almost always as the catcher goes half way to pitcher mound to field the ball.

When the CPU is playing, the AI almost always cuts a throw to home and then throws the ball home when the AI should have never cut the ball in the first instance. For example, if you have Hayward in RF and runner on 2nd with a short base hit to right. If the runner on 2nd goes home, Hayward's throw should go home (uncut). But the AI cuts the throw and then throws home anyhow. By then, the runner is usually safe. The runner on 1st doesn't advance to 2nd but it has allowed a run to score. So IMO the AI on cutoffs is flawed.

                              What say you?
