I feel for you there, man. There have been plenty of players that have left the Cubs and gone on to become much better in another place. However, Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio is amazing, and has made a career of getting guys to change how they pitch slightly, turning guys who had been busts somewhere else into really good pitchers for Chicago.

Arrieta is the crown jewel, but he made Jeff Samardzija a much better pitcher, and developed Travis Wood, got one of the best seasons of Ryan Dempster's career out of him before the team traded him away, and has gotten the most out of numerous relievers that other teams have given up on, including Cubs closer Hector Rondon.

The point is that Jake may have never become what he is had he stayed in Baltimore, no matter how long they gave him.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

Dempster's CHC stats standout so bad it's not even funny. 116 ERA+ as a Cub. Not even average anywhere else.

Arrieta is insane. 469 ERA+ LOLWUT. Yeah, it's still April...but geez.

Cubbies are lucky to have a such an awesome pitching coach! Is he a well-rated coach in The Show?

Nope. I think Bosio has like 3 negative boosts or something. makes me wish I could edit coaches

Arrieta isn't what he is now if he stayed with the orioles. He would've probably been DFA'd if anything

He was a elite pitcher in the 2014 season as well.

While I believe Arietta is a good pitcher I don't believe he's worthy of a 99. He's in a situation quite like Zack Greinke where he's got an insanely low BABiP which is making him look even better than he's actually pitching, not that he's pitching poorly, but he doesn't strikeout as many pitchers and he walks too many to be worthy of the 99 overall.

Arrieta's situation is nothing like Greinke's. Arrieta struck out 27.1% of the batters he faced. That was good for 8th in the league. Arrieta's low BABIP is a product of the high number of grounders he generates. Walks too many? His walk rate was 21st in the league. His 5.5 BB% isn't drastically different than Kershaw's 4.7%.

Whether or not he's a 99 is something I don't care about. The real issue is that his per 9's are not reflective of his real-life counterpart.

Either way, with the new progression system, Jake is up to a 99 at the start of June in my franchise. I guess I'll see how high his individual ratings can go now
