Do players regress a lot in franchise again this year?
Reason I haven't gotten it yet is because of how much players would regress last year. I didn't mind it as much when old players regressed, but when Bryce Harper and Mike Trout become 75 overall around age 28-32 there is a problem.Tags: None -

Re: Do players regress a lot in franchise again this year?
Mind you, I've only done this one test run for Harper & Trout, but by age:
Trout 28- OVRALL=99
Trout 32- OVRALL=99
At this point, Trout has 2074 hits, 399 HR's, & a career .312 BA & 229 SB, career WAR at this point 111.29 He even must have had an injury in 2019 as he only played 115 games. The Angels even won a couple WS with Trout.. Trout finally starts to slip at age 33 OVRALL 97
Harper 28-OVRALL=94
Harper 32-OVRALL=82 he was an 88 at age 31
At this point Harper has 1982 hits, 344 HR's, & a career BA of .294 with a career WAR of 55.82 & no WS rings, At this point he is also a platoon player.
Take it FWIW.T-BONE.

Each Sim you run you will get different results. I posted in the franchise thread 3 different Sims and overalls of key players.
Here is Harper retired. Crazy he retired

Re: Do players regress a lot in franchise again this year?
Played 1st season with the Giants, and most everyone went down 1-4 points in a few columns.
One that bugged me the most was A.Pagan speed, even for his age. It started at 72 and near the end of the season it was 66.
Just feel like it shouldn't drop that much in a season.
So kinda mixed feelings on progressionComment

If I remember correctly, Didn't you say his contract was up in that Sim? Did he retire due to age or poor free agent market?

Alright thanks guys
It's fine if they slip a little but an age 32 Harper should still be one of the best in the leagueComment

1 point a month on a 34-35 year old player? I'd be happy with that."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Do players regress a lot in franchise again this year?
After two months in my Cubs franchise, the older players are declining like crazy, regardless of performance, and it has me really worried. John Lackey and David Ross are close to 40, so I wasn't really shocked about that, though Lackey is pitching at an All Star level. Both are around -5 in most attributes.
However, 34 year old Ben Zobrist is doing great, and is -3 to -5 in almost every attribute as well. I guess I'll see if this continues, but if so, its a problem. That seems a bit too young to fall off a cliff with your skills when you're still putting up great numbers, and in June at that.
The other issue I'm having with regression is that every pitcher, regardless of age, usage, or stats, seems to be regressing slightly in stamina. Even Jake Arrieta, who leads the league in innings pitched, shutouts, and most everything else, is -1.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

I'm seeing that in Stamina, too, in my Marlins franchise. Granted, this is insignificant, but Boeve's dropped from 98 to 96 in stamina. Doesn't really change anything, but it's there.
As far as when players drop - I don't know. 34 is not exactly "prime" and even then different players drop off at different times for different reasons irl. There's "tendency" like we know what a players "peak years" tend to be, but there's also the fact that each player is individual. Julio Franco didn't drop until about 44. Rick Ankiel was out of baseball at 33 and declining as a hitter at 29 and is only 36 irl. If a player dropped significantly at 29, people would say "it shouldn't happen". Tell that to Ankiel.
It would concern me as far as building my franchise, but as far as declining goes, I wouldn't be too surprised at a 34 year old falling off."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

He was a 3x MVP by the age of 29 and just totally dominant. If the game simulated then said "Yo at age 33 Pujols is only gonna hit 17 homers and hit .258 that is some BS" people woulda agreed with it at the time.NFL - Miami Dolphins
NBA - Miami Heat
MLB - Miami Marlins
NHL - Florida Panthers
Soccer - Real Madrid

I'm already noticing a drop in how effective Lackey is. It adds another layer of thoughtfulness and intrigue to the game, I guess. However, if this proves consistant, I may be prone to just totally avoid older players in the future.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

I don't even look at overall. I had Beltran as a 69 overall and he hit .290 18 Hrs for me.
