Please, Help me hit because I hate playing right now

I'm completely disgusted with myself that I can't get a grip on hitting this year.

I'm further discouraged when I read the numerous posts from you guys who find hitting TOO easy. It makes me feel really bad and makes me want to quit playing my favorite game, thinking, "I guess I'm just too old". But, I'm really not that old and shouldn't be so sad with such a beautiful game.

I'm striking out 10-17 times a game. Earlier today I just turned the PS4 off when I had stuck out 8 times in only 3 innings against an 81 rated pitcher.

Throw it over my head, I swing and miss. Bounce it in the dirt, I swing and miss. Hit me with the pitch, I swing and miss and am mocked by the commentating crew.

Is there a definitive tip you can give me that may help me suck less? Is there a camera angle that helps with seeing pitches better (although I feel I've tried them all)?

I play on All Star Default

    Thanks

I use The Show 16 with zone hitting on HoF. I can't tell you what you're doing wrong but just keep trying and keep trying. Lower the difficulty. Don't feel like you have to play on a certain level. Play what makes it fun and exciting.

I would suggest playing on Veteran. It sounds like you are playing on a level too advanced for you.

Play on rookie and swing at every pitch, build your happiness back up, then stay at rookie and only swing at strikes, then move up if desired

Dynamic Difficulty is a good way to build confidence and find your right level. Plus, as you inevitably improve, the difficulty will move with you. I'm old and not that good. Don't worry about what level you're playing at, just enjoy the game.

I was terrible at hitting this year until I switched to the Show 15 camera angle. Now I'm doing pretty well on All Star.

One thing I have learned from this game thru all of these years is humility. I am a very big baseball guy as some on here can attest to. It is the only sport I follow and I follow it like a religion. I can't tell you my fathers birthday but I can tell you Bumpus Jones ( I love that name) thru a no hitter in October of 1892 for the Reds.

But when it comes to playing, almost every year for some reason I struggle getting used to the new game. I too usually play on All Star default. But this year I took advantage of Dynamic Difficulty and have actually improved my pitching, I am on HOF now. However I am just about settling in at Vet + now and trying to get it up to All star but my numbers are good so it may be there for awhile.

So don't get discouraged. Lower it down until you are having fun, then try to work your way back up. Its baseball it about 162 games and playing everyday and having fun, not about what difficulty your are on.

Thanks guys. What's the difference between zone and directional hitting?

                I use directional

Drop the difficulty and the pitch slider speeds.

I'm on All-Star, but have both the fastball and breaking ball sliders at 0. Having it at 0 helps me relax and really watch pitches coming in. I don't swing at nearly as much junk as I do on default.

Patience is key, I just recently turned off the strike zone and I have seen a definite improvement in my patience.

Anyone with a name like that should be in the game, even as a CAP Easter egg, unlockable, or something...

I'm not the best hitter in the world, and I can't hit with any of the catcher-view type cameras at all (timing always way off, maybe I have bad depth perception lol) but when I turned it around to hit from a pitcher view in MLB15 - I got at least decent.

Here's an idea of my camera view.

Other than that, the usual be patient, etc. One thing that helped me is to tell myself, "if I feel late, I'm probably on time". I have this tendency to be early on stuff, especially now that I've backed off 10 pitch speeds (for reasons not relevant here...I actually hit BETTER on 10 pitch speeds for reasons probably not relevant here).

Also, don't be afraid to jack your sliders up. Then once you start scoring 10 runs on everyone like it's Baseball Stars or something, then back it off until your results are suitable for your tastes. I actually like this idea better than lowering difficulty level below All-Star. Why? Pitcher AI. They'll be more willing to try to make you chase and such and have to judge more close pitches. This will teach (and reward you with walks) patience and being selective and then when you do swing, it won't be as exacting while you try to get into the game.

Oh and put the umps on Perfect accuracy while you get comfortable. Last thing you need when trying to get comfortable/learn, imo, is to deal with umps. You don't want to be afraid to take a pitch that's a touch outside and chase because of the ump. You might learn bad habits. Once you get comfortable in the box, you can start learning how to adjust to the ump...or just leave it on perfect. It's an option for a reason!

Re: Please, Help me hit because I hate playing right now

Directional is about influencing the ball and swing type, whereas zone is about tracking and squaring up the ball. It is the most advanced but also the most rewarding (for those freaks who can do it at default speeds).

I find when I track with zone I'm way to over-aggressive, so I definitely wouldn't recommend zone to you.

I once went through a dirge of terrible discipline at the plate. My solution? Put the controller down.

That's right, every first pitch, PUT THE CONTROLLER ON THE TABLE. Watch the pitch. Study it. Watch the pitcher's delivery. Watch what it does when it moves. Watch what it does when it doesn't move. Watch every single first pitch.

Trust me when I say I know how hard this is to do. When I did it I caught myself lunging at the table a few times. But I needed something so drastic in order to solve the problem. I even started doing it on random pitches when I knew I'd been bad, as a punishment. I'd sit there and watch the pitch as my guy struck out. It hurt every time...

... but now I get walks.

Yes you need to walk up to the plate with some sort of gameplan. Taking pitches no matter what should absolutely be in your mind set at times.

Is the pitcher sharp with command?

Is the pitcher someone you feel comfortable hitting with 2 strikes against?

There are so many variables to the game of baseball. The wheels should always be spinning so to speak. You don't always have to get a hit to have a good at bat. Going up there and swinging at everything sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you don't feel comfortable reading pitches, simply take them. I think you'll find that you will put yourself in good situations more frequently then you think. Go up there taking a strike with batters for a bit, see how you feel.

I feel your pain man. This year is the first year EVER that i have played The Show. I have to say that Dynamic Difficulty has been my best friend. I used it from the moment i started playing in exhibition games until the OSFM rosters came out so i could start my franchise. I admit that i got caught up and decided that i would hit on All-Star and pitch on Dynamic. I was so in over my head that it wasnt even funny. For starters i had to start the season (im the Braves)against the Nationals pitching staff. Then i played St. Louis and then The Nationals again. I ended up 0-9 and every single one of my players were hitting below the Mendoza line with the exception of one guy. I was trying to crawl before i walked. Hitting wise im not ready for All-Star level. I was still trying to find a comfortable hitting view as well as which hitting method to use.

I ended up having to swallow my pride and go back to Dynamic Difficulty...I also settled in on Fish Eye hitting view because it makes the mound look further back which allows me a split second longer to diagnose the pitch. I also settled on directional hitting because for a novice like me its just more simple to push the button for whatever type of swing you want. Im now sitting at 2-9 having taken the first 2 games against the Marlins...this includes my last game where i took a no-no into the 9th inning...the score was 0-0 with 2 outs and i gave up a double. I ended up winning in 11 innings 3-0 on a 3 run homer and i only gave up that 1 hit.

Bottom line for me...this game is too good and too beautiful for ke to get caught up in trying to "keep up with the Joneses" aka the guys up here who have been playing this game for years. I want to enjoy the mess out of it and that means going qt my own pace. My advice is that you do that as well and you will have a ball with this game!!

I'll give you the same advice I got last year from a user here and that's go to zone and leave it right in the middle 98% of the time. I've noticed that this year the PCI NEVER moves for directional hitting. Never. Switch to zone but don't track the pitch. Just wait for the ones you want to hit in the zone.

Also, dynamic difficulty is your friend.
