      Re: Franchise problem: Suicide Squeeze

While I do agree that it's used by the AI too often, I don't believe the frequency is as insane as it appears to be. The AI plays the situation, and when the opportunity presents itself it doesn't hesitate to use it.

The key is taking that situation away. The CPU CAN and WILL do this in order to prevent (or at least discourage you) from doing a squeeze play in a game-deciding situation. And the user shouldn't be afraid to do so either:

      <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i7ZnTCsZn6w?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Of course you can still use it, but calling the squeeze with the bases loaded is a special kind of desperate and presents a number of risks, all of which can take you right out of a chance to complete the comeback.

      - Batter misses, 3rd runner is caught

      - Batter pops up the bunt - 3rd probably can't return to the base in time

      - Batter gets bunt down but too hard - potential force at home or, worse, double play home to first

It's tough - when the force at home is on a lot of things can go wrong with the squeeze very quickly.

In case you're wondering, Jansen struck out the next two and I lost the game, because Braves.

TL : DR : Consider your options and don't let the AI beat you the easy way.

I'm only commenting on this because saying the AI does it all the time will lead to it getting nerfed into oblivion like check swing strike appeals were this year. It's a part of baseball strategy and the threat of it should not be completely eliminated.

I think it's doing it too much, if only because it's picking power hitters who are terrible bunters.

Sure, I can do what you mention...but why is it calling for the squeeze with a 80 Power, 10 Bunting player in the first place?

It's one thing if it's trying it with a 18 Power type, especially if he has decent contact and bunt ratings. Bonus points for good speed because maybe he'll force a rushed throw, etc.

The only "nerf" it really needs is to tell the AI...don't use a Trout-type to bunt. With a good power guy or even a 70/50 type player, a sac fly is more probable than him and his single-digit bunt rating laying a bunt...in theory anyway.

Game 6 of the World Series, I'm trailing the series 3-2, it's a scoreless game in the bottom of the 8th. Nationals load the bases with one out, Ramos at the plate. First pitch from Ryan Madson, Ramos squares to bunt and the runner breaks from 3rd. The bunt goes straight up in the air, Vogt catches it and throws to 3rd for the double play, inning over

I'm sorry but it happens way to often luckily I got on the good side during my last game. I'm in May in my franchise and it's the 4th time it's happened this year. Bases loaded no outs 8th inning up by a run, suicide squeeze is popped up, catch the ball tag the runner coming to the plate and throw the ball to second. Triple play. My first ever since playing the show for 10 years.

These are exactly the type of situations I've seen in the past few years. The AI will squeeze with the bases loaded and a power hitter at the plate. I'm really hopeful a dev sees this thread and something can be done about this. We seem to have a thread about it every year. I know everyone has their own personal annoyances, but this a big one for me.

This was an issue last year, but this year I haven't seen it. As I said I've only seen one suicide squeeze by the cpu through the month of May. I honestly don't recall now who attempted it (Trea Turner maybe???) but it was in my first Nationals series.
Yep, frequency is way down in 16. In 15 it was attempted far too often.

This was a good short read. Its not a very successful play which is why it's so rare. Whats interesting about the article is how it really outlines the risk involved which really creates excitement and tension. I don't feel like the show really captures that in my experience. Every time they've done it or tried to do it it's on the first pitch. Some more drama would be cool.

Just lost a game in franchise on this very play.. Was tied up at home with runners on first and third in the top of the 9th. I throw the pitch, ball up and out of the zone. As soon as I see the guy leaving first, I instinctively laid on triangle. As soon as I realized he squared around, it was too late. My catcher chucks the ball to second as I'm frantically mashing X to try to hold it. Runner is out by 15 ft at second base but the go ahead run easily scores.

Next pitch, groundout to second that would've been an easy double play. It just hurts to lose a game late like this, and it's not exactly my first gimmicky loss. I'm chalking it up as a "these things happen" type of event but it feels like a solid kick in the Jimmy at the time.
