RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
Hey guys, like most of you on these forums for MLB The Show, we are all big fans of this series. I really enjoy the level of simulation San Diego studios puts forth every year. One of the best recent additions to the game since 2014 has been the implementation of "player lock" where you can essentially treat any MLB player on any team like you are playing in a RTTS type of game perspective. This feature really draws you in to feel like you are in the mind of that player and the game does a very good job of replicating that feeling. In the current iteration of the game there has been some concept changes with the camera that sours the feeling of immersion due to a camera design choice in my opinion. I made a more detailed video about it here. Does anyone else have similar concerns with this change?

I'm with you 100% on this. I had been great the last couple of years. Don't understand the need to change things that obviously work just fine.

yeah, its mind boggling to me why the feel that this is a better way to field the ball when playing RTTS or player lock over a more authentic gameplay camera for the past 2 years. I hope that this is something they can patch/update.Teambuilder Name: Mrlux

Re: RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
Excellent video! I hope SDS will do something about this. I only play rtts and this is the worst change they've put in the game. On a positive note, they did improve homeruns. Having the ball travel greater distances to areas in and out of stadiums make hitting homeruns more enjoyable.Comment

Thanks, I'm going to retweet this to their twitter accts again but sadly if more people dont do the same, sometimes these developers wont consider it worth their time to investigate and make changes.Teambuilder Name: Mrlux

Re: RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
Great video I haven't even noticed this issue yet as I haven't played as an outfielder yet in RttS. In the past that Outfield Camera used to needed to be triggered by clicking the Right Stick in I believe. I think many people complained about how difficult it was in the OF so it looks like they just made the camera be the default view.Comment

Re: RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
I recently switched my SS to an outfielder due to having Brandon Crawford in the way of making it to the majors and I hate the camera angle. I have to wait for the game to basically show me where to go before I can start moving. I would much rather be able to just follow the ball rather than staring at the ground.
It doesnt help if you have low reaction it takes a second for the ball location to show up."Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!"

Re: RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
This is my biggest issue with The Show for the past 2 years. When the old camera was first introduced (13 maybe?) I thought it was a huge improvement for RTTS fielding. The 16 & 17 camera has been reduced to us simply running to the spot where the ball will land- there's no need to track the ball. Even playing as an infielder on pop ups or bloops the camera doesn't track the ball.
The puzzling thing about this change is it goes against what The Show has done so well through the years: keeping old gameplay options while adding new ones. Classic and meter pitching remained as they added analog and pulse, and its a similar case with the hitting interfaces. I still use the Show 15 hitting camera and I'm happy that they kept it as an option.
I'm sure there are people that like the fielding camera in 16 & 17 but at least give those of us who dislike it the option to use the one that worked so well before.Comment

Re: RTTS/Player Lock Outfield Camera Issue
@MrLux,
Great video I understand your point. I play exclusively with player lock since MLB 14! I play a SS. I tried to play Outfield once just to see how it would play and quickly reverted back to SS. After experiencing that camera.
I cannot completely agree with your point about putting you in the game and making you feel like a player on the field. I think part of that experience went away when they removed manual catch and made thing feels so automatic. Playing a player locked SS my teammates don't really acknowledge that I am on the field. As someone who has played. When a ball is hit into the outfield and I run to the correct cutoff spot but the CPU ignores my player locked player and throws right past me is pretty frustrating. But this has been around since MLB 14 and still exist.
There is definitely a lot to be desired when playing player lock at any position on the field. But if I could describe how I think it should work. I wish playing defense in MLB The Show reflected similar to how a freelance offense in NBA 2k works in concert. Were it feels more organic and the players are reading and reacting to each other. Because that's how a baseball defense plays which makes it frustrating when the CPU defense you are playing on does not recognize you as a player on the field. Even with the new humanity AI the play on the field defensively still feels stale especially when you are player locked player and involved in the play.
There is a great post on these forums some where of a user posted a video of himself playing outfield and making a diving manual catch. He talks about how rewarded he felt when he did it on his own as opposed to the CPU doing it for you.
No defensive player lock pass just yet while playing player lock. Still a long road ahead. But hopefully this video and post will prompt some type of over haul in the future.Proud member of the 0.04%Comment
