I'm using Drectional Hitting too, All Stars, default sliders. To me, the best way to hit well is to build momentum working in the count. Not only you'll get more meat balls, but pitchers can really lost the strikezone and get nervous. In my last franchise game with Cubs, Wacha gives three walks in a row. I'm pretty sure it's not placebo, it's in the game. So what i do:
- First at-bats i'm super conservative, a two strikes approach. I use this time to take note of pitching patterns.
- Try always to get a walk. It's the best approach, be patient.
- Swing only at good pitches. Wait for your pitch.
- Usually, if a pitcher get nervous, he'll start to use his best pitches. Take always a look to the pitches confidence level and don't be afraid to Guess.
- With three balls, it's always fastball time.
- Try to play smart baseball. With 0 Outs and a runner on first base, bunt and don't concede a double play.
- If you're behind in the count, switch to contact swing. If you're ahead don't be afraid to try a power swing.
- When you feel your players are in a good mood, try a more aggressive approach.
- Guess with Sluggers, wait for a fastball up in the strikezone and crush it to the moon.
- It's not a bad idea to have a slugger or a good hitter deep in the lineup. It helps a lot to keep your focus when usually things get cold after the 4-5 spot in the lineup.
- At times, pitchers can be really aggressive with strikes. Punish them by swinging on the first pitch.
