Re: What happened this year?
Hitting isn't good this year. It's arbitrary and feels unrewarding. It's not organic. The gameplay can seem very predictable and linear this year. Trying to actually get decent hits, types of hits and being struck out is really very difficult. Especially when compared to how the cpu bats. Sure some people have found a way to enjoy it, but the sheer number of people on these forums, other forums and just word of mouth saying similar things is probably a good indication that something isn't right.

Re: What happened this year?
If you hit with directional of course hitting will feel unrewarding. You aren't doing any of the workComment

What happened this year?
I don't know. I'm hitting just fine on all-star with a couple slider tweaks with zone.
In my Indians franchise I have guys averages ranging from .205 (Yan Gomes) to .344 (Michael Brantley) everything is playing out pretty realistically. I'm in first place 3 games ahead of the Royals. I'll look at my team average tonight and update this.
And it is true that the pitch type plays a role in the hit type. Juan Uribe hit a moonshot HR to left off of a hanging slider but he can't do that with a high fastball. He'll pop that up more often than not.
By the way; I'm just into the first week of June. Team BA is .267

Re: What happened this year?
The act of hitting always requires some effort on the user's part.
Because it doesn't require any "stick skills" doesn't mean it requires no work. Strike zone judgement, reading pitches, having an approach at the plate - that applies to all hitters regardless of chosen interface."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: What happened this year?
That may be the case I guess, but you have to do all of that and actually aim at the ball with zone.
I'm sick of facing hitters who have the fastball timed to perfection and just tap X.X.X.X pitch after pitch and if you throw a fastball near the zone it's gone because they have the timing down.
"The fastball is four pitches when located well" - not when you're opponent only has to time the pitch and can disregard location.
I know, just throw curves in the dirt etc but that is extremely boring and repetative and if they start to lay off then you have to face their perfectly timed fastball swing.Comment

Last time I checked I was 5th in the league in hitting. Don't remember exactly what my batting average was. But I was excited to be 5th.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: What happened this year?
People also, evidently, became a lot more ignorant. It's cool that people like the game, but saying nothing about bugs or bad gameplay will result in next year's title being underwhelming. Developers like feedback and they are pretty good and filtering feedback from nonsense. Saying nothing or not asking for other opinions and help is not a great idea if you want to see things change/get better/enjoy the game more.

You are correct - his post didn't help. But yours adds on.

I sure do run into games this year where it seems like all I do is constantly hit the ball directly at someone. I've literally had a game where the first 10 balls I hit, I hit them directly at someone to the point where the INF and OF didn't even have to move. I get frustrated for sure. Hitting seems to be a little harder this year. It makes for a more fun experience.
I feel like the game is more realistic this year, I'm not hitting .350 with everyone, I'm not scoring 10 runs a game. What people seem to forget is teams aren't consistently getting 10-15 hits a game, and if people don't get 10-15 hits a game, they blame the game and say they can't hit. This isn't a bug, it's a matter of buckling down, learning how to hit, watch video's, ask for tips, practice, but don't say the game is buggy because you can't hit.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I agree with the sentiments of the original poster on hitting in the show. I understand that not all perfect contact/timing needs to result in a HR or a base hit, I'd just like to see it result in a hard hit ball for outs.
I found when I first picked up this years game my outs seemed to be a variety of hard hit balls, but as my dynamic difficulty increased and the game got patched i'm back to getting the same warning track, lazy pop flys and foul ball outs again. I find most of my hits and hr are actually coming from late or early contact swings while my well timed are going nowhere.
Also, to those who suggest playing with the sliders to make it easier... I find that is almost like going down a difficulty to make it easier but having it remain to say it's a higher difficulty.
Definitely getting a bit bored with the lack of variable hitting that seems to happen when you climb the difficulty levels.Comment

With zone I see all types of hit variety and I play on default HOF, as I'm not a slider tweaker.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: What happened this year?
The problem is, the fact that a few people can't, or aren't good at, hitting, isn't a bug. It's just the game getting more difficult and better IMO. I've been playing this game since about 2011, and up until last year, I NEVER hit. I would sim hitting and only pitch, because I just couldn't get hitting down. Starting last year, I decided to buckle down and learn how to hit, and it's paid off.
I sure do run into games this year where it seems like all I do is constantly hit the ball directly at someone. I've literally had a game where the first 10 balls I hit, I hit them directly at someone to the point where the INF and OF didn't even have to move. I get frustrated for sure. Grabbing onto one comment and running with it doesn't disregard what I wrote.
To be abundantly clear, I feel hitting with directional, this year, seems arbitrary and unrealistic. I'd like to see more user strike outs and variety of hits/gameplay on both sides of the ball, and I would really like to see pitches well in the zone result in few less popups, especially since the cpu crushes similar pitches from human pitchers.
I think it's fantastic that you enjoy the game this year and find it more realistic. Despite knowing that this games popups average is inflated compared to rl stats doesn't make me feel I should slight your enjoyment or opinion.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I didn't say the game is buggy. I don't think me not hitting is a bug. I'm not a "me me me" guy. In fact I point out how it's a voiced opinion of many people that I share.
