What happened this year?
I'm just writin this because I am extremely frustrated with this game. I have played The Show for multiple years and I am by no means a "noobie"... I just want to know to anyone who uses zone hitting.....HOW DO YOU HIT CONSISTENLY IN THIS GAME!!!!?!?! Theres absolutely no logic to this interface....I constantly get center green perfect tming whatever you want to call it only for it to be a Line Out/Pop Up/or a Foul Ball...its ridiculous..I know its part of some new algorithim that The Show used this year because last year it did nothing like this. So my question is this...Are we supposed to use backwards logic and try to hit the ball with the left part of the wedge?? I mean someone out here has to know something that I don't! I use PCI Wedge..and I am curious.what do you guys do with this PCI..do you try and dot the ball or just place the whole PCI on the ball? I am so confused.. Someone help!Tags: None -
Re: What happened this year?
Well I started using zone this year on All Star...got great results initially then after patch 1.04 happened just nothing. Couldn't hit to safe my life.
Started using directional/timing and it just flat out frustrated me and seemed random.
Went back to zone, dropped to veteran and just leave the PCI in the middle. There is bound to come a pitch over the middle of the plate sometime. Constantly get 8+ hits. As soon as I start moving the PCI around the AI celebrates as I won't get more than 4 hits a game.
If the pitcher manages to paint the corners or edges of the strikezone...well played pitcher, well played.San Francisco 49ers

Re: What happened this year?
Seems like this would be even more problematic than directional. Balls in the bottom half of the zone you will be hitting down on (choppers) and balls in the top half of the zone you will be hitting up at (pop ups). Willing to give this a try though, directional is frustrating me to no end as well.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I'm in the top 150 ranked players on diamond dynasty and I only use silver players. I hit with the same settings as you.
The key is to not sit in the middle and react (as bad hitters will tell you to do) but to treat it like a real at bat. Place the PCI where you want the pitch to be and DO NOT swing unless you get that pitch - until you have two strikes on you then just try and get a ball in play.
If I'm looking fastball up and away and for the first three innings he's painting low and away, make the adjustment and start sitting there. Think about the count - if it's 2-0 where will they be aiming? And of course lay off the low stuff.
Of course, I still hammer balls with a perfect PCI that go nowhere or right to guys but that's baseball and if I stick to my approach they will fall eventually.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I know what you are talking about man, I haven't been able to hit anything the last couple days. Considering putting the game down for a long while because of it. I went from being able to hit well to not being able to hit at all.NCAAM: Wichita State Shockers

Re: What happened this year?
Perfect timing doesn't always mean a HR.
Perfect zone placement doesn't always mean a hit.
Perfect timing and perfect zone placement don't always mean an HR/hit.
Think about the pitch location; if you square up a ball down in the zone, you're hitting a screamer right to an IF. Remember also that baseball is a game of averages; if you're successful even 30% of the time, you're performing at an all-star level.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: What happened this year?
Yes, I understand all that. But I don't know why they touted precision hitting when baseball is still going to be baseball. It would actually be unrealistic to make every good contact/location swing a hit. I'm glad it's NOT this way.
And just because a guy vents doesn't mean he's blaming the game.Last edited by Spokker; 06-03-2016, 10:12 PM.Comment

Pitch movement plays a part, as well. A fastball will come off the bat differently than a slider would, even if you hit them the exact same way, because of the type of spin from the ball.
Think billiards. The type and amount of spin on the cue ball (in this case, the baseball) will determine the path the cue ball (baseball) takes after making contact with the object ball (in this case, the bat), with the amount of power behind the shot also being a variable to consider. In baseball, I don't see this being any different. Then you take into account weather, time of day, some ballpark elevation, and pitch location as you mentioned, and you have a lot of variables to change the path of a squared-up pitch.
To the OP... me, personally, I find directional hitting to be just fine on All-Star and HoF. I feel it does a fantastic job keeping things as balanced as they can. Like baseball, sometimes things aren't working like they were and you have to make adjustments. In this case, "settings" adjustments. Change things around and take the time to test them thoroughly and you'll eventually find your personal balance, even if it means trying a different interface.Comment

All that has happened is IMO the fame improved in many area's over 14 and 15.
Alot actually.
I have found nothing wrong with hitting on Directional/Timed.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 06-06-2016, 09:10 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

True, but, if large enough, the PCI would probably end up in a decent general location. In Directional, it's possible the player's PCI can be way off even on a poorly located pitch (I see it with the CPU hitters), almost regardless of its size.
However, you would likely lose a decent amount perfectly squared contact. You might lose some line drives as a result."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I am hitting with directional and so far I am think this years game is much better than the last couple years. I know before I hit the ball if I am going to pull, push, or center....last year it was pull only for the most part and it seemed like I didn't really know where it was going when I swung.
I do get upset some times when I pop up meat balls, but, if you watch baseball pitchers do get away with pitchers down the middle more often then you would think. Hitting a baseball is crazy hard to do!Comment

Re: What happened this year?
There are some great threads addressing this in detail.
In short:
Use zone hitting
Based on pitcher type cover the upper part of the zone , middle, or low
Don't swing unless the pitch is going into the PCI. Ever. Don't mind striking out looking.
The above will almost certainly result in higher line drives and XB hits and walks. If you still struggle look at sliders to help.Comment
