Re: MLB The Show Teach Me How/Tips/Strategies Thread

Serious question... men on 1st and 3rd. How do I steal second without also sending my Mann on third into a death trap at home?

I've noticed there is a little icon in the first base runner box that implies I should hold the left thumb stick right to only steal with the first base runner, but always sends both runner and when I let go of L2.

Just press L2 and let go after pushing the stick to the right. That que's the runner at first to steal. If you hold it you are manually setting the time to steal to when you let go of L2.

So more-so just tapping L2+left stick to the right, rather than holding L2?

I came to ask the very same question when I saw the thread name lol

Yes just "Tap" if you hold it in then what you are actually doing is setting it up for manual steal. When you hold and then release your runner will go when you release the trigger.

I have questions about zone analog flick hitting types. Not sure why this isn't in the manual. Please see my explanations below. Let me know if I'm wrong.

            Normal:
No need to handle stick prior to pitch. Just flick up when ready to swing.

            Power:
Before pitch is thrown you are in ready position with stick pulled back. Flick forward to swing.

            Contact:
No need to handle stick prior to pitch. Flick left or right. Is this directional? As an example, if I want to hit to the 1B side would I flick to the right?

Thats pretty much correct. Contact swing is flawed for this imo

Obviously Square is for when you are just trying to crush the ball, your hitting reticle will be a little smaller in size, but if you make it in, you hit for big power. X is your average swing, but Circle has always kind of perplexed me. At first I only used Circle for pitchers, and then I stopped using it entirely for years, now I'm starting to revisit it. My question is is Circle supposed to be the choke up on the bat at the sacrifice of power but for more contact like what hitters do on 0-2 counts in real life? Does the hitting reticle increase in size the same way that Square decreases? Do you guys have any good rules for when you use these, like 2-0, 3-0, 3-1 use Square, 0-2, 1-2 use Circle, and X for everything else (obviously influenced by game situation as well, not just the hitter's count).
                Thanks

I realize this is an older question and I am not an expert but I use X for the majority of the time. I use the O button when I get down 0-2 and want to try and avoid the strikeout. I am pretty sure it expands the PCI at the expense of power. I think this allows me to foul off borderline pitches that I might normally swing and miss at. If I get back to a 2-2 count I will switch back to X to swing.

I am not sure that I have used the square button at all in 2016. You'll hit HR with normal swings if the player has power so using the square and shrinking the PCI is not something that seem beneficial to me.

this is perfect reasoning. the only time I use square is when I need a sac fly from a guy with NO power.

As hitter u watch the release and look what movement the pitch. U can see the diffrent between FB and CH, with FB he snaps the ball, i dont know how explain it diffrent. In early Editon u could pratice batting and tell u want only a specific Pitch. With Silder on the outside I had most problem.

Stealing with 1rd and 3rd is a problem for me to it says L2+triangle. but it never work for me.

How u get more putouts as pitcher. Its almost imposible to win Golden glove.

I believe it's L2+O. You want to select the base the runner is currently on...

What's a good way to make a custom, realistic hitting view that makes me feel like I'm in the batter's box? I've angled Custom 1 a little high towards the batter so that I'm kinda looking at the pitcher and down at the plate. Any suggestions on perfecting this?
