Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

When you need to start getting a reliever ready, do you use warmup or stretch and toss? I haven't really noticed a big difference except that stretch and toss stops at 50%, but is warm, while warmup goes to 100% and can actually eat in to the pitchers stamina. I almost always use stretch and toss, and just put the player in at his "50% warm," unless I need a pitcher ready fast, then I use warmup. What have you guys noticed about the two options?

I notice a dip off in velocity and control if they aren't fully warm, mainly control. If you use Warm Up then put them on Ready & Waiting though it wont eat at their stamina.

I generally use Stretch and Toss to get a guy ready in case of trouble and Warm Up in other situations

    Examples:

    Stretch & Toss:

My Starting Pitcher has allowed a hit and has had 2 deep pitch counts.

    Warmup:

Starter gave my 6 solid innings and is starting to get tired going to get the reliever up and have him pitch the 7th.

Re: Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

I use "Stretch and toss" When my Starting pitcher is starting to get in trouble, and I MAY need to bring in a reliever. If I do need to bring in one, then I will switch to "Warm up" and THEN immediately do a mound visit. This usually gets the relief pitcher ready to come in the game. Then I will make the change.

I use the "warm up" option when I KNOW for 100% certain, that I will need to bring in the pitcher to start the next inning. If I have an abnormally long inning at the plate the previous inning, I will switch to "ready and waiting"

Basically, if you think you MIGHT need a reliever, have him stretch and toss. If you KNOW you will need to use the reliever, then use Warm up.

I would like there to be far more of a consequence when warming up a RP and not using him. If I have a pitcher warming up for an inning, forget about him, and finally put him in the game the next inning, there should be a decent sized hit to his stamina.

Re: Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

I only use stretch & toss when it's my starter that's still in. If the starter gets the third out & not due to bat, I sit the reliever down.
If I'm going to pinch hit for him I move him to warmup when I get two outs when I'm at bat.
If he get's in trouble quickly & needs to come out, then I have the reliever in the 'pen changed to warming up.
Then I make a mound visit, then pull the starter.
When I have a reliever in the game I never use the stretch & toss, unless it's long reliever who entered in the 4th inning or earlier.
          Even then, that's rare.

I use it for all reasons above except if it's a close game, I'll get my closer up in the 7th on stretch and toss and if it becomes a save situation, I'll warm him up.

Re: Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

I just go full warm-up then use Ready and Waiting.

Even if I'm not sure I'll need a reliever, I want them fully ready just in case. I don't want him to just be leisurely, then after a 10-pitch walk and a 7-pitch hit to have them just half ready.

I can always sit him or just keep him on Ready and Waiting.

Same for in the NL - pitcher might hit 4th/5th in the order that inning. I'll schedule the reliever to come in and put him on Ready and Waiting after full warm up. Depending on the situation, he's ready to go either immediately or if I need him later in the inning (say "no" to the prompt and carry on).

I can't see a reason why I'd want to have him half-warm when I can just have him "stay loose" after he's fully ready. Then I know he's warmed if I do need him. I don't have to worry about using a half-warm reliever.

Re: Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

I have had to use stretch and Toss on my closer a few times, if I have taken a unexpected late lead in the bottom of the 8th with 2 out. a few times I have been down in games and have forgotten about the BP thinking I am gonna lose, then I have to get my closer up from taken a late lead

Never really used stretch and toss, but gave it a try after reading this. I think I'll start using it more as it does have its use.

Here's a trick I've used since TS 13. Have the pitcher stretch and toss until he's half ready. Go back to the bullpen and select warmup and go for a mound visit right after. When you go back to the bullpen he will be 75% ready. If you throw all 8 warmup pitches, the ready meter will fill to 100% on the 8th warmup pitch... Only if you don't mind throwing warmup pitches. It helps with the pitch confidence.

Re: Bullpen: Warmup or Stretch and Toss

I have never liked the bullpen warm ups in this game.
For me I am a play and manage type player. If I guy is warming up in real life and gets warm he simply quits warming up or just throws a pitch every now an then to stay warm.
I just don't like and think it is unrealistic in this game that I have to tell a guy.. "Ok your warm out there 500 ft from me, so quit warming up!" lol
I know it is a little thing but I hate the fact that we have to tell the pitcher he is ready and waiting. Pretty sure he already knows that.
                        For me it should be.
                        1. You tell the reliever to warm up.
                        2. You either sit him down if you realize you are not going to use him.
                        3. Or you put him in the game.

You don't tell him to take a break in the pen or that he is ready and waiting. lol
And before everyone jumps on me for this I do know the game of baseball.
And my best friend is actually a college pitching coach.
He doesn't have much time to play this game this time of year but I know this bugs the crap out of him too.

I use stretch and toss to start with, then go to warmup if Im only giving my starter another batter or 2 before pulling him. If my starter gets into trouble quickly before I have a RP up stretching, then I got right to warmup, and make a mound visit to give him some time. Wish we could have our catcher go out and chat with the pitcher as a stall tactic. This is definitely a area of the game, that could use some work by the devs.

I just use warm up. Stretch and toss seems too tedious to me.

I've been thinking of turning off the setting where you have to warm up the RP at all, as I usually forget to warm him up until it's too late. I like to play fast, sometimes too fast.

me too, as the manager of my team, I trust my pitching coach to keep the bullpen ready for war. I feel like I'm cutting his legs out from under him if I try to micro-manage his job.
