    Budgets on or off?

Just wondering how fellow show'ers play their franchise. With budgets on or off? Why do you prefer one to the other? Do you notice the cpu making more moves one way or the other?

    On.

Why do you prefer one to the other?
The dev's took the time to put it in
& real MLB teams have a budget.

I haven't played with budgets off & I normally play with trade slider at 10,
so I can't really speak to that.

      Re: Budgets on or off?

      I play with budgets On.

This way teams with bad contracts (including me) will have to deal with it. I see guys on the block that I assume are for contract reasons. Like in my carryover, the Cardinals gave a big contract to Longoria. Now he's in the back end of his career, his production is down and he's a perennial show on the trade block.

I also gave a big contract to Baez in FA. I think I acted a little too hastily, and if I need salary relief, I might have to dump him for basically nothing to the first team that needs an infield upgrade and can afford him if I want to keep my homegrown talent together.

I think some players don't get offered arb in the offseason because of budget reasons (again, an assumption but I think a reasonable one), and likewise some guys might not get extended or even offered Q offers because of it.

In season moves, it's hard to say since I can't really see the budgets or the money swap (probably could find out, but I know budgets are on so figure it may well be a factor) per trade.

Like Ghost, I keep a high trade slider and haven't really tested budgets Off, so I can't tell if there's any significant difference in moves.

        Re: Budgets on or off?

I've always played with budgets off, and force trades on because I didn't want to learn that side of things. I just used "house rules" to keep it competitive.

With that being said, I just started a new franchise with Budgets On and Force Trades off.

I also usually don't worry with scouting and the draft, because I would adjust my draftees to be what I wanted. I'm not going to do that this time either. So, I figure it will be a long season of learning and building up a team.

BTW: I did adjust the roster before hand. I moved all of the Braves Roster to Texas and Texas to the Braves. I'm going to play as the Rangers but with the Braves roster to see if I can build up a team. I also added myself to the team as the ace of the pitching staff. So, I guess you could say it isn't exactly by the book... LOL!

I have budgets off, but I control the vast majority of player movement in my franchise for all teams. I'll follow the budgets, but if a team needs a piece I don't want to be hampered in making a move.

This is what I do. I follow all real life moves though.

I play with budgets on because in real life teams have budgets. I have no idea if more moves are made with budgets off compared to on because I have never played with budgets off.

                Re: Budgets on or off?

I play with budgets off cause teams do raise budgets and lower budgets based on how team doing. Cubs went from 145 mil payroll down to 80 and now back up to 140. Will have to keep going up once all arb guys due for raises
