Spring Training Roster Question
Is there a way to expand my roster for Spring Training so I have access to a full 40-man roster without bringing guys up to MLB and having to burn an option after Spring Training is over? I want to give some guys in AA and AAA a look, but can't seem to figure out how to do that. Cheers.Seattle Seahawks

Re: Spring Training Roster Question
Everyone on the 40 can be put in your MLB roster during spring training, but if you put someone on the 40 and then you need to send them down to the minors as you clean up to 25-man MLB roster, they will burn an option year.Is there a way to expand my roster for Spring Training so I have access to a full 40-man roster without bringing guys up to MLB and having to burn an option after Spring Training is over? There is no way around this. Recommend only adding prospects to the 40 man if they are ready this season or next season, so you don't run a serious risk of running out of option years on guys who aren't ready. -

Re: Spring Training Roster Question
The answer is NO. And this is 100% realistic and correct. Most people incorrectly assume that you don't have to use an "option year" when you send a player down in spring training. This is incorrect. Is there a way to expand my roster for Spring Training so I have access to a full 40-man roster without bringing guys up to MLB and having to burn an option after Spring Training is over? ALL players on the 40 man roster are considered on the "MLB" roster in Spring Training. You will have to use an "option year" when you send them down to the minors, whether it be the first day of Spring Training, or the last day. It is this way in real life.
Where The Show differs from real life, is "Non-Roster invitees" In real life MLB, teams are allowed to invite players not on the 40 man roster to Spring Training. Thus they can play in games, but not technically be on the roster. Hence, when these players are returned to the minors, they are "assigned to minor league camp" rather than "Optioned"
The Show doesn't allow for this.
But, in short, there is no way to send a player on the 40 man roster down to the minors without using an option year.Comment

Re: Spring Training Roster Question
Kind of blows the very reason to even have a spring training doesn't it.
What you CAN so though is create a copy of your franchise - play spring training calling up people and then revert back to the other copy for the season.
I always have two copy's of my franchise any because I once SIM SEASON by accident and you can't undo that.Comment

That won't help, or "fix the problem" (there is no problem, it is working as intended, and the same as real life) because those players on the 40 man roster will STILL use an option year when you advance to the regular season. This is HOW IT SHOULD BE. In real life, any player on the 40 man roster, who doesn't make the 25 man roster out of spring training USES AN OPTION YEAR.Kind of blows the very reason to even have a spring training doesn't it.

The whole reason for Spring Training, is to decide who you want to make your roster, AND (in real life, not so much The Show) get players in condition.Comment

I think he means the part of not having access to all your players instead of just the 40 man roster.
You are absolutely correct in the fact that just being on the 40 man for ST burns an option year for a player regardless of a call up during the RS or not.....but honestly....we should be able to use anyone we want during ST games.

I agree with that part. They need to add Non-roster Invites.I think he means the part of not having access to all your players instead of just the 40 man roster.
