I feel like it depends on how you want to play. If you want to be a player only and be at the hands of management, than rtts is your way. If you want to be in control of trades and etc than franchise.

Pretty much in line with what JWDixon said. I personally solely play the game this way using franchise mode. I try to gain awards and train attributes overtime.
One thing I do to prevent boosting my attributes is to start with a base or copy another rookies attributes then build from there. Your overall rating can also go up or down based on performance which also affects your position in the line up or getting called up or sent down which is wonderful so you really have to perform. Also you can edit equipment for teammates or the entire league.
If your are a infield player this years game lacks a challenge because features like manual catch have been removed from the game. So playing defense feels automatic and errors automatic based on your ratings. Earning trophies like the gold glove for example are pretty much pointless.
You also do not get any equipment boost as you would in RTTS. So put yourself in AA and get to working your up to the majors and have fun!
P.S. I stopped playing RTTS and switched to Player Lock Franchise because the game seemed to put your RTTS player in specific game situations so that you can come through in a big moment or cause a error at a key moment in the game so that the other team is in position to score. This became repetitive and takes away from the team effort and natural gameplay of baseball. Even when I stacked my team with big time players or was on a playoff proven team these types of moments would still occur.
I do not know if its a programming thing or not but you will definitely notice if you play as many full inning games as I do. Watching each at cpu at bat for both teams.Last edited by jada855; 07-25-2016, 10:37 AM.Proud member of the 0.04%Comment

Thank you both for your replies. I appreciate the input. The longer I put time into both modes, it seems like RTTS is a bit easier too. I'm not sure why, but just seems easier than player lock on Franchise.

I prefer to create "my character" (or edit an existing player within franchise) and player lock when I want to play as a pitcher, especially if I make a knuckleballer.
Then I don't have to deal with trying to hit spots with a pitch that's designed to do everything except hit exact spots...especially when it's in the hands of a young pitcher with no control yet.

I've found that Franchise mode using player lock is more fun to me. Because of the same reasons already stated. You have control over the team. One thing I like about this is that you can immerse yourself into the team. By that, I mean that even when your player isn't playing, you can either sim, play, watch, manage, etc the other games. Where as in RTTS, you really don't have much say, you just see them progress on the calendar one at a time. You can't get involved in those games in any way.
The one thing better in RTTS mode is that challenge of getting to the show. But once you are in the bigs, it really kinda gets old. Where in Franchise mode, it just seems to be more enjoyable at the big league level. I've played RTTS for many years dating back to MLB 09 The Show. So, I've had my time in the minors. LOL!Comment
