Pitch speed - 10?
So I figured I would give pitch speed set at 10 for both to see how it is and man I'm happy I did. I know it sounds crazy but my hitting has improved and recognizing pitches is much easier. I also like the lowered reaction time which gives me less time to think and just react instead. Anyone else use this setting?Tags: None -

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
Nah, I am comfortable at default.
I don't know that I could hit at 10. LOLI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
I think the OP is referring to the "Timing" I play on pitch speed 10 but feel 8 feels a bit more realistic. Pitchers who throw hard you will barely see the ball. However putting the pitch speed on 10 and playing for a while then lowering back to default will improve the way you see the ball.Proud member of the 0.04%Comment

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
When I'm facing a power pitcher I put it on 8. (Pitchers in top 3rd of league in K's plus BB)
When I'm facing a finesse pitcher I put it on 6. (Pitchers in bottom 3rd of league in K's plus BB)
And versus an average power/finesse I put it on 7. (Pitchers in the middle 3rd of league in K's plus BB)
And I use Baseball Reference's definition of power & finesse.T-BONE.

I can't hit on anything less than 10/10.
What you mentioned is exactly the reason why. That and less "wiffle ball" nature to offspeed pitches."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
I do 10 as well. Anything else and I am swinging early and at everything. At 10 I don't get caught thinking at all and just actually react to pitches so I swing at strikes and take balls.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
Not to sound like a fan boy or anything. But this is why this game is so great. I turn pitch speed all the way down. Only way I have been able to react accordingly to pitches. Kinda neat how this game can be adjusted for different needs.

I don't play at 10 but I do play above 5 with fastball speed at 8 and offspeed at 6. On default or lower I cant hit at all. At default or lower I find the pitches look way to flout and I cant tell the difference between a fastball and a offspeed pitch at all. I swing at ever thing on default and even if I pick up that a pitch is a changeup I am still early and I am early even on like 98 MPH fastballs. When the game first came out I couldn't hit at all. After moving up the pitch speed sliders my hitting was night and day better with out changing any other sliders.Comment

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
To the folks that have the pitch speed set to 10, 2 questions:
1) What kind of TV do you play on?
2) Do you use zone hitting?
I just don't think my left thumb can react that fast, but I want to try it. I have a hard enough time hitting pitches inside and/or up in the zone, so I think setting the speed to 10 would kill me. I also play on a pretty crappy 32 inch RCA TV that isn't very good for gamingComment

2. Directional
Thing is, I'm STILL early on pitches, especially away, even if they are power fastballs. I don't think Zone would change that."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Pitch speed - 10?
I'm 8 games away from the playoffs in my current franchise and was planning on starting a new one after this season, so I think I'll give it a try! I do agree that I think this will be better once I get used to it. Some of the changeups/breaking pitches are unhittable on default because they're soooooo slow. A 75 MPH curveball is like an eephus sometimesComment

I probably could finally hit those changeups I always flail at...although I would never hit the fastball.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment
