How come my runners sometimes run on their own?

I've had this happen a number of times now where I'll have a runner on first and hit a gapper. The runner on first is slow so I stop pressing the send all button when he's about midway between second and third so he stops at third. Most of the time it works fine and he stops, but I've had a number of times now where he completely ignores everything and continues rounding the base only to be thrown out by 15 feet. Why is this happening?

Maybe you stopped to late? Seems like the only reason.

I wonder if the runner's aggressive attribute has anything to do with it.

Maybe your L1 button jams? This happens to me sometimes where a button jams and I don't realize it.
