How you guys can play on HOF or Legend pitching is beyond me!!!
I had to quit after about 5 games. Its almost as if the computer will decide when to go on a run, and when it does, there is nothing you can do.How do you guys do it? I couldnt after seeing carlos martinez hit a 3 run rbi double against aaron nola against a pitch breaking outside of the zone. All star is much more realistic to me.

All-Star probably is - I think HoF and Legend are mostly for guys/ladies who can handle that challenge and probably depends on the interface as well. If anyone can pitch on Legend with Classic pitching...you're a pitching master, imo.
But there's some aspects of that in all difficulties. I mean, I've had 7 straight pitches right down the middle, six consecutive extra base hits, 9 hits allowed in 2 innings against a 90+ H/9 pitcher, etc. Just the nature of some of the systems in the game, especially pitcher (and pitch) confidence, and, again, probably some due to interface.
I think All-Star is fine, but for some, All-Star is too easy.
Hall of Fame pitching is tolerable...but yeah some stuff like that will happen. Of course, I see it on All-Star as well, part of it is just baseball and some of it is PCI and such (if the PCI is on the ball, it can be way out of the zone but it's squared up - a good Zone hitter probably could do the same)."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18 -
Re: How you guys can play on HOF or Legend pitching is beyond me!!!
I've gotten as high as HOF+ pitching and the key is to just mix up location and speed. Also I find it helps waste pitches out of the zone and avoid always nibbling around the plate.
My other tips are as follows:
Change-ups low and away all day! Try not to have CH up in the strike zone or inside to power hitters.
Sliders low to mid away off the plate are great to get them to chase. I try to never pitch sliders in the zone or inside. Sometimes to mix it up a slider in the zone and low early in the count can be effective, but don't overuse it.
Curveballs seem to high a very very high success rate when you throw it as a first pitch in the zone. Outside of using it for a first pitch I don't find it to be that effective to get them to chase as much as the slider away. Also, if you throw it late in the count in the zone it seems to get hit hard.
Fastballs are the pitch I throw 50% + of the time. Try to locate it down and away or up and away. If you have a lot of gas you can challenge guys up and in or up out of the zone for a lot of swinging strikes. Again don't be afraid to purposely throw a fastball inside for a ball or low for a ball.
Another tip is when you have two strikes and balls to work with try to get them to chase with offspeed stuff. The AI goes into protect mode so they are usually more apt to swing, so try not to leave it over the plate.Comment

Re: How you guys can play on HOF or Legend pitching is beyond me!!!
Last year I played on Hall of Fame and the difficulty was perfect.
This year, AllStar and Hall of Fame are just too easy. I started my season 12-0 and couldn't continue. I'm currently playing Legend everything now and am 55-32 with the Yankees. I find Legend to be perfect in terms of urgency by the CPU and with adjusted sliders, the boost the CPU gets on higher levels is balanced.Comment

Legend pitching does, to me at least, seem far too random. It does feel a lot like the computer just decides it's going to hit you for a homerun so you just have to deal with it, along with those stupid at bats where they foul off 15 quality pitches and then leave the first pitch that's an inch outside the zone to get a walk (usually followed by the aforementioned predetermined homer)
Hall of Fame is more fair and it does feel like what happens is on me, if I hang a curve ball then I can expect the spectators to become fielders and the fielders to become spectators, but if I throw a quality pitch then I will gt a good result more often than not. I toned the CPU power down one notch as they are pretty lethal, but even still I must be towards the top of homers conceded in the league.
To be honest, it's all about just tweaking the sliders and difficulty to get the right results for you. I can't imagine too many people just happen to be exactly the default legend or default all star level to get MLB type outcomes.Comment

Re: How you guys can play on HOF or Legend pitching is beyond me!!!
Default Hall of Fame difficulty is tricky, even pitchers can square up 99 mph fastballs up and in. Mistakes are punished hard and the cpu has almost perfect hitting recognition and an enormous pci for hitting. Incredibly I found lengend easier...Maybe i was lucky but i think the cpu pitchers make more mistakes on legend and throw a ridiculous amount of strikes which help to balance its incredible hitting ability. A lot of the apparent cpu cheating is on the interface i think. Meter pitching is a crapshoot in those difficulties and zone hitting is not forgiving if your timing is a little off. I would like a difficulty between all star and hall of fame. It would be the most balanced and challenging for oldies like me.Comment

Interesting you say that. I actually use zone and meter so that may be part of it. Also, for you guys playing above all star what are your human pitching and cpu hitting sliders looking like? I believe on hof i had my control and consistency at 2 so maybe that was part of the reason i was getting rocked so hard.Comment

I play dynamic difficulty and bounce back and forth between HOF and All star. Yet on hitting I can't break past veteran after playing probably 100 games.Comment

I think it also depends on the quality of your pitching staff. I play with pitching set at Default HOF and I lead the league in team ERA. I have very strong pitching in both my Fantasy Draft team and in my regular franchise(Cubs).
Def make sure you are switching up speeds and locations and sometimes purposely putting the ball well out of the zone or in the dirt. If you make a mistake on HOF, they are likely gonna crush it.Comment

Re: How you guys can play on HOF or Legend pitching is beyond me!!!
Set your pitching to Dynamic Difficulty. Pitch until you get your level up to All Star+ and then move your dynamic difficulty sensitivity slider all the way to the left to lock it at that difficulty. This is what I did for my hitting since I was hitting too well on All star and not enough on HOF. So now I have my hitting locked on All Star+.Comment

I try not to fall into the trap of focusing on the whole windup or focus on the strike zone. I find if you make those mistakes you will consistently be late.
Just curious, which batting controls do you use?Comment

My tip for hitting is focus above the head where the ball is going to coming from. Take a few pitches at the beginning of the game to find the spot in the backdrop where the ball appears and just hone your attention on that spot during each pitch. This method will help you gauge the trajectory and speed of the pitch.
