    Fielders reacting too slow...

Playing against Toronto (I'm Seattle) and Kevin Pillar (78 speed, not too bad) beats out a routine grounder to second??? Anyone else have similar issues? IF speed and reaction set to default.

One question I will ask is are you preloading your throws?

There are times when there is a bouncer or slow roller hit towards one of the fielders and instead of allowing the user to charge the ball, you are locked into an "animation" of waiting for the ball to get to you.

Other than that, I can't say that I've seen any anomalies in the fielding that have resulted in the runner beating out routine ground balls, unless they are a speedster like Billy Hamilton for example.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yes, fielding is terrible in this game, preloading or not.

This is what I don't understand about criticizing the game, now I agree fielding needs improvements, some gameplay aspects definitely need to be touched up or over hauled etc. But in no way is it "terrible" or broken (a common complaint) I know nothing about video game development from their side, but I know personally if i thought parts of a game were terrible i probably wouldn't play that game or waste my money on it. Again just my opinion

Agreed, very far from "terrible". There are some infielder animation inconsistencies - casual animations are queued sometimes when a more standard or urgent animation should be queued. And in the outfield the catch animations sometimes don't take over at the expected time and/or fielder position, causing missed catch errors occasionally.

I do think the fielding for RttS needs to be reworked, it was far more inconsistent and troublesome in 3rd person view than standard fielding views. Playing as a RttS outfielder in MLB 16 was frustrating for sure.

I played a DD extra innings game on Legend this morning and Corey Seager could not get to normal ground balls in 3 of the first 4 innings. It was like he was stuck in mud.

As said before, make sure you preload your throws and also make sure you use maximum effort for the close plays or when you have a fast runner. If you don't use max effort, the fielders animation will reflect that and they will set their feet before throwing.
As long as I pre-load and use max effort on plays I know are going to be close I don't have any issues.
And yes, make sure your infielders arm strength is at least 5.

What exactly do you mean by "max effort"? Is that how far/quickly you're on the joystick?

Depending on what throwing method you use you can use maximum effort on throws.
Button Accuracy: end of the green bar just into the yellow
Button: hold hard until you feel the vibration feedback.
Analog: not sure as I have never tried that method before. Will give it a go next time I play though.

The first thing I test and tune every year is players with average and below average speed beating out routine grounders to SS.

Fielding has been vastly improved from last gen. Like night and day IMO.

There are still some minor slow animation quirks, but I have learned to fix them via Sliders. Really simple fix.

I felt fielding on MLB 16 was the best it has ever been and the sheer amount of animation variety, realistic outfielder paths to the ball.....really nice stuff on 16.

Again some simple/minor slider adjustments can make the game even more authentic and play the way "you" want it to.

I've played the show for years now and never knew this. I don't think I ever hold the throw button until I get vibration feedback. I'm going to try this next time I play.

Analog the meter fills up from the bottom of the arrow. The fuller it gets the harder the throw. But with analog you don't have to fill up the meter especially in the infield. Pre loading is even more important. If you pre load right even with the bar only two lines full I have thrown out speedy runners.

Following up on my previous comment... it appears that Legend nerfs the fielding to make it harder. This is the only level that I have serious issues with players not moving quick enough to get to routine balls.
