I understand the want for any games devs to focus on what you think is most important. But I am guessing this mode tested really well with surveys and presentations.
I don't think anyone is saying they know how much time and resources it took to implement retro mode. But the development team has been very open about not being able to implement everything they want to every year and that decisions have to be made.

For example, in last year's stream they talked about how they did not expand on replay reviews. Someone explained that the boss came in and said, we can either do all these cool things we've wanted to do, or we can work on replays at 2nd, 3rd, home etc. The team chose to do all those other things.

Because of conversations like that, I think fans have adopted that mindset. Many also feel this is one of the smaller AAA development teams out there, furthering resource constraints.

That being said, I don't think retro mode took a lot of time and resources to implement. It seems like tweaking the gameplay and presentation to look more arcadey.

Sure, but if you are at all serious about Arcade Baseball you are not playing or buying The Show for it.

Most people will probably try it out for a little bit, acquire whatever trophies are associated with it, and move on.

Retro Mode is this years Showtime, neither of them add anything to the core sim experience, but it's something they can stick on the back of the box in big bold letters.

Again, my point goes back to those of us who play the Show for the Sim experience, but its also nice to have a "throwback" to play a game of yesteryear. Its nice to have both options in a single video game.

And how do we know its Arcade? How do we know anything about it? It has only been announced, no details have been given.

Seems your opinion comes from a perspective that you don't have any interest in playing it so therefore it shouldn't exist. While its true that is your opinion, it doesn't make any of the assumptions that you are making about the feature true, simply because they support your opinion.

Speaking of manager challenges, I do hope they expand on them a bit this year in terms of presentation. They're a huge part of the game now.

My impression during last year's live stream was that they were a lot of work for a small payoff, and that's why they didn't expand them.

I understand that it's probably just for the trailer, but I hope they get rid of the "Jr." on the back of his jersey.

I also wish that they would clean up follow throughs and finishes a little more. On that final shot of Griffey his foot just slides into the home run celebration animation. No weight transfer or anything that makes sense.

Oh, it's also very strange to see the Athletics version of Giambi in a Yankee uniform.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Trailer, Retro Mode Details Revealed

So let's see... My guesses here...

-more of a story mode in RTTS
                    -more personalized celebrations
-more realistic physics on hits down the line
-more athleticism in the fielding animations
-Yankee Stadium The House That Ruth Built
-Classic players in Diamond Dynasty (which I have never played, so I don't know if they're already in)
                    -Some sort of Statcast system
                    -Some gear upgrades

The only thing that would drop my jaw at this point would be a create a stadium feature. Either that or a more robust GM mode with among other things a longer draft and playable minors down to short A. Maybe with PS3 and Vita out of the way we'll eventually see those things.

I know a lot of people are saying the graphics need to be updated. Maybe my eyes aren't as good as they use to be but I think the player models and all the graphics are fine. What about them needs to be changed? I'd rather that time be put into putting new features in the game.

The player models are looking a bit dated at this point IMO. There are only a few different types, eyes have this weird zombie-like look under certain lighting conditions, and the "fat" models still look like the jersey is stretched over their skin, a'la the PS3 days. If you look at someone like Sergio Romo, who has a fairly unique body type in real life, The Show's version really looks nothing like him.

Still, I consider these things to be fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. The Show never disappoints and if we don't get new models this year, I'm sure it's still going to be an awesome game.

Because in a pre-build, they're probably not using PBR (Physically Base Rendering) from what we had in 16 until closer to final.

Hoping to hear more so I can continue my save file into 17. Now, back to my MLB 16 season..

I do as well. I'm hopeful that with the pro, the game will be a stable 60FPS and that includes cut scenes.

If they can implement HDR the proper way along with a 4K resolution, my body is ready. I'm drooling at the thought of the show in 4K HDR on my Samsung 8500.
