Re: MLB The Show 17 one of the biggest updates in the series?

Im not trying to get anyones hopes up as I would always recommend tampering expectations with most sports tittles this included BUT...

heres a thought, the PS3 version of this series is gone finally, no vita either, leaving us to believe this years cycle was 100% focused on PS4.
There is PSVR however so that MAY have cut into resource time.
As a PSVR owner even I hope they avoided it for this year specifically because lets face it, this game in motion still looks very PS3ish.
Hopefully this game will finally run smooth during cutscenes and during balls in play (60fps). Visually besides name brands on gear and 3D stadiums, this series on PS4 has been very average looking.
    Still plays well obviously but...

I really hope I don't miss out on potential PS4 Pro only improvements, such as frame rate and graphical features. No plans right now to get a Pro.

But at the same time I get why this might happen.

The improved ball physics is HUGE for me. I'm pretty happy with how the rest of the game plays. The only other big thing I'd like to see addressed is online franchise. I don't even care if it's bare bones just please give me one that works and has basic stat tracking. That's all my friends and I need. Obviously something like Maddens CFM would be ideal but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Also an expansion on what they started with conquest so it's not so repetitive would be cool.

Can anyone clarify for me what Ramone is saying in the Rewind trailer at the 2:24 mark?

That's where my confusion on the classic stadiums originated from. What's he saying here on the "2 more we haven't announced yet" line, after describing the inclusion of Old Yankee Stadium.

I hope so. This game needs some renovation at its core, especially with the ball physics.

It sounds like they've made some major improvements to ball physics, but they've also said that in previous years, too. So we shall see. I look forward to more information, and the actual game.

But ball physics is definitely at the top of my list. I won't be buying another game if that game still features excessive hangtime on fly balls and hits, 30 pop-ups and dribblers per game, etc...

i'm a single player vs the computer offline franchise only player, so for me it would be the ability to turn off every help aid, icon, notification (i.e. xp notifications, defensive shift notification, base running notifications (i.e. tag up), base running diamond, manager tips, etc.)...pretty much everything but the scorebug.

the above + auto base running + auto fielding/manual throwing + classic pitching with no icons + offense/defense using BTP camera = tv style broadcast baseball gameplay heaven...

wow, so close already...just a few more tweeks

Well we haven't "officially" announced the other 2, however they are clearly visible in the background if you look. We've been teasing and leaving hints of things for over a year now just carrying on the trend of leaving little nuggets of info in our content.

I'm in the, I'm getting the game regardless bucket. I'm an Aussie so I didn't really know much about baseball until I started playing this game back in 2015. I love cricket so I and many other Australians have a love of hitting a small ball with a bat. It really is hard to describe the joy one gets form such a simple (although I'm terrible at the game) pastime, I reckon you all know what I mean. As I said I am terrible at batting but I like that, I'm still on rookie plus and can't hit for s@@t, which is a great challenge, it's the only game I can get this from. So I'm looking forward to the new release no matter what new features they have included.

What he meant is revealed at 4:08 of the same video although in addition to the "hidden" stadium Metrodome all 4 are revealed on the tv screen behind him which is the selection screen for classic stadiums.

                      Shea, Yankee, Metrodome, Sun Life.

I think it depends on what your favorite mode is. If you are a DD guy then there MAY be more improvements in this area than other parts of the game. If you are a Franchise guy, there may also be improvements that you will be happy with. etc...etc...

I think the game will continue to evolve in the areas where Sony can garner additional revenue (card packs, etc). The gameplay will always be tweaked and bugs will always be worked on, but there will always be a huge list of on the field issues that people find and that SDS has to prioritize. True of any release.

For me, until they change the player models and really take advantage of HDR and what the PS4 Pro can do, I don't think we will visually see a huge jump.

One thing is guaranteed...some people will just love 17 and others will think it falls short based on previous year's wish lists and bugs not being fixed.

So maybe this is the wrong spot to ask this, possibly since OS gamers often tend to also be techno-files when it comes to their TV's and stuff. Lots of people here (some in this thread and many in other threads) saying they want The Show 17 to have full PS4 Pro support. But are 4k TV's and PS4 Pro's common enough now that developers such as Sony San Diego are ready to commit significant enough resources to PS4 Pro enhancements?

I was reading up on the PS4 Pro around the holidays, you know, just in case my PS4 and 1080p TV "broke" and had to be replaced... And one stat I sort of remember is that there are >50 million PS4's out there, of which about 2 million now are PS4 Pros ( < 4% of total units). And around something like 98% of PS4 gamers use a 1080p TV, so even if they have a PS4 Pro, the best they can hope for is the "super sampling" or whatever anti-aliasing enhancements the Pro can do at 1080p. Since basically no 1080p TV's can actually see any benefit from HDR either, I just wonder how much time and money developers are willing to spend on PS4 Pro capabilities.

Not trying to be negative, I'm just curious.

                            I agree.

I understand that the people that do have a 4k TV, myself included, want the best product for the system they have. But I also can't imagine that too many people have 4K's outside of the hardcore technophile or gamer crowd. I only have one because I stumbled into a great deal. But normally would not have bought a $2-3k TV just for 4k. The TV I have was normally $2400 and I got it for about $900 so thats why I have one.

But how many people really have these TV's? For that matter really, outside of hard core gamers have people switched over to PS4 Pro? I would be curious on numbers and stats if anybody had them.

                            Back on topic.

I have said before, that I really think this version of The Show is going to be something special. I really think we are in for a really great game, even more so than usual.

Yes, sorry, back on topic... The potential hit variety with the upgraded ball physics has me almost giddy. Honestly, if that works out well, and truly gives the game an even more realistic feel, I wouldn't care if they didn't change a dang thing from MLB 16. I would literally be happy to plop down $60 for a ball physics patch for MLB16!

Fingers crossed that it isn't overdone with balls hooking and slicing and top spinning and back spinning in all sorts of wonky ways. But with The Show, when have they ever made an improvement or change that was overdone? The conservative nature of the game improvements is part of the reason why the game always is taking steps forward, and doesn't have "off years" where some new feature or "improvement" doesn't work right and it sets the game back (unlike some other sports games have encountered over the years...)

Sony basically made the PS Pro to sell more tv's 'cause sales are down in that department. So they probably want studios owned by Sony like SCEA to push 4K and HDR in their games so consumers run to the stores to buy new tvs that have these functionallities. The game propably also supports Sony VR.
