Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
Okay, I'm not starting a war or anything, and there is more to be implemented, but I would really like to know: for people that have been to NYY Stadium, how does that grass reflect what you see in real life? I honestly do not know what it looks like atm haven't watched a Yankees game in some time.
Now don't get me wrong the photo here is a cheap JPG from the net. And there is not much sunlight. But this is such a vast gulf between game and reality that it concerns me. Why is everything so faded and lit up in The Show? I added another completely different shot that is much lighter and you can still see the very overt differences. Fields have a tendency to look more lush in summertime at night obviously, but in no way have I ever seen a field look like The Show does in game, even with the most bluest of grasses. And it's hard to believe you guys are not picking these color schemes at this point. You have HDR and 4K available to you.
The only way you are going to get it right is probably doing it yourself. Taking a high-end camera to the stadium and matching your digital shots to what you see in real life. It's basically the only way you are going to get perfection. But at some point I don't care about perfection, I just care about improvements.
Maybe it doesn't concern other people, and that is A Okay. I am looking forward to the progress they make in this version even if it is only steps toward next year's release for graphics.
Got to wait for the Playstation 5 most likely to even come close to that kind of grass color and texture. Not even the PS4 Pro can pull that off I am sure.Last edited by tnixen; 01-31-2017, 10:58 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
Honestly, can someone from the dev team tell me what is going on here? Why is your grass milky-white? This is an honest question that needs to be answered. Not covered up by mods. Not censored for forum satisfaction. There is no hatred here. I am buying MLB 17.
I just want to know how it is you guys find your fields to be even close to accurate? And why are there no complaints about how absurdly inaccurate these stadiums look? You guys complain inanely about commentary year after year, yet say nothing about the actual realism OF THE GAME. It's almost like people on these forums never actually go to games. Because let me tell you the grass at actual baseball games is taken care of by a near million dollar field team, and it IS NOT milky white.
Dudes, it looks like they are playing in a dead end desert in the second shot. This is NEW YORK. The BIGGEST BASEBALL TEAM on the planet. They spend like a million dollars on field care. Their grass is green bros. GREEN.Sad!
But they do have new grass tech this year for 17 so maybe there is some hope.Comment

Yo, we are not going off the deep end. I'm trying to constructively post to enable people to see the vast differences at play here. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but yes it keeps this game from what it could be.
At any rate NO, the dev should NEVER try to match your variable and crappy TV broadcast instead of real life. LOL. What is this kind of post? This is a simulation. A TV broadcast has different looks based on each camera they have going. It's 100% useless to use TV broadcasts to make a stadium as your only source.
Also, the colors in no way whatsoever match the TV broadcast of Yankees games in HD. Just letting you know that. Your point doesn't make any sense either. The Show devs have already said they have access to 4 MLB teams and their stadiums. And that should only increase. (Screw you Twins!)Last edited by MythicalGnome; 01-31-2017, 11:26 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
Never noticed it but this shows a pretty big difference and come to think of being at actual games you're 100% correct. Grass pops in real life at ballparks. As for the stadiums themselves they're done really well minus the huuuge stairways

The grass was literally almost neon green picture perfect and dark at the first game I went to. It was such a reality check compared to the game and even the crappy non-HD broadcasts I was watching that it truly blazed my mind. I want that. In this game. It's the only way.Comment

Oh for sure it does. Being at the Metrodome so long, and then only playing The Show.... when I went to Target Field I was like.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
I understand it might be their PS3 tech still in the engine, but it has nothing to do with the PS4 Pro or anything. That is just not true. You have the equivalent of a GTX970 in the Pro man. It isn't holding back the actual color of grass lol. It's possible that the current way they do lighting is the problem, but in effect you still color your fields and pick which colors are in your game just like would designing anything in videogames.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
I don't think coloring has anything to do with power though. 2K had a much greener color for their fields and that game is how old? Plenty of open world games, and even games like Flower, have much more lush and green grass.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
And I'm saying why not wait until we see what the graphics and grass look like with the new graphical development tools are in place? That way we get an actual depiction of what the game will look like this year, before we start throwing around accusations, questioning the devs, and arguing with anyone who doesn't immediately side with your opinion?

He is really talikng about 16 and all versions before it I think.
Those screenshots are basically from 16 anyway because all the new enhancements are not in that build according to Russell.Comment

And your last comment is what I'm saying. What has been is in the past. The devs have made new graphical improvements and are introducing something called "grass tech". Why not wait until we see what these new improvements do for the graphics as a whole before we start complaining about this year?Last edited by countryboy; 01-31-2017, 02:08 PM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Screenshots (Work in Progress)
This is off topic, but the Twins pants stripe for their road unis was not in this game for over 4 years dude. NOT a minor thing. Might as well color their pants teal and hey we just deal with it right? No. No one boycotted the game. I have no idea what you are talking about. I take a year on/off break from this game.
And people are waiting for the grass tech. In the meantime these screenshots have made people discuss the graphics of the game. This is what people do when new screenshots are released.Last edited by MythicalGnome; 01-31-2017, 02:20 PM.Comment

'16 has basically come and gone, so why would he complain about it now?
