    New Rule - Intentional Walk

It is probably too late add to game, but MLBPA and MLB have agreed to remove the need to throw 4 pitches for intentional walks and opting for a signal from the dug out instead.

MLB The Show already skips to the fourth ball on an intentional walk, but now they can skip the entire thing altogether.

If the animation cannot be changed, I am hoping that at least the intentional walks do not add 4 pitches to the Pitcher's pitch count, as technically in 2017 he will not be throwing those "pitches".

What I read this morning is that the announcement of the change isn't even official. Unless an official release has come out in the last few minutes.

But maybe there would be time to implement if this does actually happen. Maybe just bypass the pitches and animation sequence when choosing intentional walk, and go straight to the batter trotting down to first base with Matty V saying his "looks like he's going to be intentionally walked" line or whatever. In coding terms, maybe just some changes to some IF statements or something?

Did you guys hear about the extra inning rule they wanted to implement? Placing a player on 2nd base at the start of every extra inning. It was ridiculous! They really need to stop messing the game up.

The problem with this new rule is that you take the chance of a passed ball out of play now. But I'd be surprised if it makes it this release regardless.

That's just for rookie ball i believe. I don't think anyone has the intention to try and push that to the MLB level.

I wouldn't be too sure of that, MLB is always looking for a way to speed up the game and they don't want another world series game that goes into long extra innings for some dumb reason (longer game time, means more revenue not just for the stadium but for TV as well) but for some reason the Big Wigs of baseball, seem to think the game is broken and they are doing everything they can to fix it. Apparently the runner on second in extra innings is something international teams have been doing for almost a decade now (I did not know that)

They are trying it out in lower level minors to see if it is something to implement at the MLB level. Softball has done this for years. I would hate it if it ever happens in MLB.

the only positive out of it, and I mean "THE ONLY" positive would be, it make some interesting drama in those extra innings.

Manfred has already said the extra inning rule would most likely never make it it MLB. I think he even realizes how how stupid it is..

As a pitcher...believe it or not you get nervous issuing a free pass like this...

I don't think the rule change will do much or anything because it's not like these happen often anyways.

                          John Lester would agree!!!

The ESPN article this morning said an intentional walk occurred once every 2.6 games. So @ 15 games a day most days, that's 5-6 IBB's per day. So this rule theoretically saves about 5 minutes a day TOTAL across all MLB. So silly.

If they want to speed things up noticeably, the pitch clock may be something to start testing out more in the minor leagues. And enforcing that the batter not step out of the box completely between pitches. I remember watching Troy Tulowitzki in a game when he was still with the Rockies, he would step out of the box, adjust his batting gloves, take a couple warmup swings, etc. after EVERY pitch, not just after a swing or foul. I started timing it, 35-40 seconds each time. It was a 10 or 11 pitch at bat. His at bat literally took about 7 minutes, and he ended up flying out to left on a routine fly ball. If each batter were to behave like that, we'd see 15 minute 1-2-3 half innings! Yikes!

Same for pitchers, some pitchers come off the mound, walk around, adjust their hat, massage the baseball, and you've got 40 seconds between every pitch again.

Sorry, ranting off topic. Anyway, if the rule change is known far enough in advance, I'm guessing the dev crew will do their best to get it into the game.

Things like this is what can come out of a botched intentional walk. All these rule changes need to stop!

ya but those are extremely rare. AND TBH, most of the time all it does is cause the crowd to boo(when it's a home team player being walked)

I had a feeling this rule would come into play at some point.
