They need to adjust the durability attribute and create a injury attribute.

Amen! I've been asking this for a few years now.

I'd like them to add tendencies to the game, similar to 2K...I've mentioned it before but allow the user to edit player tendencies both for pitchers and hitters.

A cool attribute that was in the High Heat Baseball games was batter pull frequency. ex: Jose Bautista, a pull hitter is set on 95+. Miguel Cabrera, who hits the ball everywhere, is set in the 50-60 range.

Players are given push, pull or balanced tendencies in the show now based on their actual hit style. It's just not an editable attribute.

I think it's a mixed bag. It gets stats and outcomes accurate enough but some play to play tendencies could be changed. A list of a few tweaks I'd like to see in no particular order:

-I wish players like Vlad or Sandoval could exist in the show and have an ability to make solid hits on crazy swings.
-Pitcher ratings vs lefties and righties would be huge and probably make manager logic sharper when compared to real life.
-Tendencies for pitch usage would be nice (maybe just a slider equating to a percentage of use so all pitches sum to 100).

One of my bigger changes I'd like to see is an understandably large undertaking.
Like others have said I think durability and injuries could use a big overhaul starting with separate sliders. Durability should obviously be higher for all players as they need way too many off days. And while the dev team has mentioned that injuries while playing is lower on purpose (at least in regards to pitchers getting hit by comebackers) I wish they gave us the option to play with more realistic injury management including more frequency. Right now it feels so random and once an injury is done a player is just back at 100%. It would add so much depth if a player battled a nagging injury throughout a season, or if certain players were just particularly injury prone. I know it would be frustrating to some extent (which is why I'd ask for an option) but having a cornerstone players career derailed from injury is frustratingly frequent in real life and frustratingly absent from the show. Guys like Matt Cain have seen their out of the box rating plummet because of injury issues but that never happens as you move through franchise. Obviously this would be a massive change to game logic and something not everyone would be a fan of (both factors that make it unlikely we'll see it any time soon) but to someone who appreciates the strategy and uncertainty of team building it would be great to see included.

Players have the tendency of being a push, pull, or balanced hitter in the game. However, in The Show, these tendencies cannot be edited. You cannot go into edit player and change a player from being a pull hitter to a push hitter.

I agree with pretty much everything you guys have mentioned here: separate injury/energy ratings, better coach ratings system, pitch framing rating for catchers, etc.

I would like to see Power broken out into 2 categories: Bat Speed and HR Ability (or something like that). You can have guys who can't hit Home runs that well, but when they do hit one it goes a LONG way. Or you have guys that consistently hit dingers, but they aren't hitting those massive shots that get the Sports Center highlights.

Think Glenallen Hill, he only hit 20 or more HR's in a season 4 times I think, but there were some 500 footers mixed in there. His Bat Speed was insane (*cough* PED's *cough*). But he hit a LOT of hard ground balls and line drives. Conversely, you have a guy like Addison Russel last year for the Cubs. 21 HR's, but he certainly didn't hit any massive blasts.Or better yet, Brian Dozier who hit 42, but not a single one in the top 100 longest of 2016! How would The Show differentiate between these guys? Someone like Stanton would have both high bat speed and high HR Ability obviously; hit a lot of home runs and they go really far.

I am going to say no. I used the Braves and I have one of the top 5 rated SS defensively in Andrelton Simmons and his range has always been limited in this game.

The attributes are fine. As a manage mode user I never know when I put the game in the ps4 for the first time what game play will be like but it has nothing to do with attributes.

I believe they could do a better job of explaining some things like the difference in the 3 umpire strikes and balls settings and when they test the game to try to make game play accurate which umpire setting do they use?

There is already pull tendencies for hitters.
Has been for a long time too.
Hitters can be extreme pull, pull, balanced, push, extreme push.

A positive change would be to add that to the player card. Unless I'm missing something the only way to see it is during a game on the pause menu. When considering trades I'd like to know pull frequency for the player I'm acquiring.

I think there is a lot left to be desired for MLB The Show as much as I love baseball. I found that I play NBA 2K17 way more because of all of those off ball animation and player likeness details. Like when I play a good team for example GS. I feel like I am going up against a CPU version of them and it makes it fun and challenging experience.


MLB The Show definitely has room to grow in this area for sure. I am hoping for this in those 1,500+ new animations for MLB 17 but for example in the current Game Stop Monday video where they are showing off Show Track.

Elvis Andrus is running at 18.4 MPH and that is FAST! The third base coach is just standing there like he just woke up! (I am sure the previous arm wheel animation is still there but never really worked accurately) and the batter on deck is stretching as if he has no idea what is going on. Tweaking those types of personalities in game will make the game feel completely different and organic. Not to mention lead off and base return animations are still the same!


But who know's maybe this will get improved in 18 or 19 but when the personalities section was introduced in MLB 16 there is still a chance to expand on this since it has returned for MLB 17!

Off the top of my head, the current power rating is massively flawed as it governs both extra base hits and home runs. This has serious downside.

For example, Jose Ramirez was an XBH machine in 2016 - only Daniel Murphy had more 2B and 3B . And yet, Ramirez only hit 11 homers in 2016. He needs a power rating that can govern his relative inability to hit home runs and his relative knack for the extra base knock. The current power rating definition does not allow room for both of these extremes to exist. If he has a power rating of 70, he will hit far too many homers. And if he has a power rating of anything less, he will hit too few xbh.

I mentioned sometime last year that there should be a difference between power and strength.

There should definitely be some sort of rating that determines someones knack to hit balls in the gap vs players who hit balls over the fence.

You explained it perfectly and I agree 10000000%.

Additionally I think that things like plate discipline and vision should play bigger roles. Players with good plate discipline and/or vision should have more borderline pitches called as balls and opposite for those who have low ratings.

Couple that with catchers framing pitches and makes the intangibles that are so unique to baseball shine more.

I think with these new hit types you will see an increase in extra base hits in lower power rated players like Ramirez. I'm willing to bet higher contact players will be more valuable than in previous versions of the game simply for their ability to make solid contact more consistently than higher power lower vision players.

Cautiously optimistic this is true, but I feel like there are sliders that don't correlate directly to attributes.

Solid Hits is an example of how you can increase that globally but I wish you could dictate that on an individual level. Giancarlo Stanton makes solid contact always even when the ball isn't out of the park it's smoked constantly.

Again this is part of that the whole power vs strength vs solid hits vs doubles. It definitely needs to be fleshed out.
