I always use guess pitch/zone hitting. As I understand it if I guess correctly not only does my PCI lock onto location but I also receive some contact bonus. If I guess wrong I receive a contact penalty.

But what happens if I have my settings on guess pitch but don't guess every pitch of the at-bat? I'm assuming no bonus or penalty?

    Hope I'm making sense here.

    Thanks
AFAIK the only time lock-on occurs is when you correctly guess location with "Classic" or "Default". In both of these situations you'll see an on-screen indicator of the pitch's location - Default lights up a part of the strike zone, Classic shows the ball's exact location. When this happens you cannot move your plate coverage around. Guessing pitch type correctly in those two modes will flash the four corners of the strike zone, but not lock on to the pitch. Of course, if you guess both correctly, you'll also get lock-on. If you guess one correctly and miss the other, it's treated the same as missing both, and the penalty is severe.

In addition, there's a "PCI" Feedback option that is the same as default, except that it allows you to move the PCI after a correct location guess.

Not guessing at all provides no bonus or penalty, and is the same as turning the feature off (or at least that's what I believe, since I usually just leave the option on Default and don't use it)

I've always used Classic and in the past have guessed every pitch. This year I've kept the setting but only try to guess (pitch type and location) on the first pitch of the at-bat.

I didn't know about the PCI Feedback option. Sometimes when guessing correctly the PCI does NOT square up the ball( slightly below or above ball location). I've used contact swing when PCI is not centered on the ball.

I will change PCI Feedback to give me more swing freedom.

      Thanks for the info.

I use guess pitch too, as it helps me lay off of pitches. Plus I dont buy the whole crutch thing that some say. IRL there are hitters, like for example Joey Votto that guesses on where and what the pitcher is throwing. If its not in the zone that Votto is looking for he dont swing. Considering what Votto has did in his career, Id say its working for him, being that he is one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Obviously not all hitters think that way, some just hit it where its pitched and dont put much thought into it, and others have their own ways of going about it. Whatever works is what you should do.
In the game I dont always guess, sometimes its dependent on the count Im in, as to if I will use it. Im not all that good hitting with the game, and I know if I werent to use guess pitch at all, I would be getting shutout quite often

That's the way I feel about it.. Instead of very few walks and striking out a bunch It's like a real game with guess pitch. If I don't guess right I will usually lay of the pitch, unless I have 2 strikes. I have more fun this way.. In RTTS I'd literally have 0 walks in a season.. Guess pitch I might have 60-70 for my player. And strikeout much less. I could never lay off that dirt pitch..

Nothing worse than batting .282 with a .293 OPS.

See what i mean?..guess pitches and zone and bla bla. Alot of casual gamer kids..thats why its so important for this game to keep and improve on analog stride hitting.

I don't use guess pitch. My friends do and I feel they rely on it too much.

I use Zone Analog. And I feel if I had zone and guess pitch It'd be too easy. With Zone you can "guess" and leave your PCI where you think the pitch will be. Same idea as Guess Pitch but not the gimmicky lock on and actually know what pitch is coming.

I also don't like the reward/penalty of guessing right or wrong. If I'm able to get the PCI on the ball, I'm going to hit it hard, even if I don't know what is coming.

I'm 51 so your theory is shot. Unless you're buying the game for me I'll play as I see fit.

See that's the thing, it'd be too easy for ya. For some of us it would be too hard. I hope you see our point?

I do. I understand why people use guess pitch and I'm glad it is in the game for them. I personally don't use it because I feel I can "guess pitch" with Zone hitting.

Not sure why people are coming into a thread which is obviously a question about guess pitch, to tell the OP why they shouldn't use guess pitch.

Nobody should be criticized for posting a question about how an option in the game works IMO. There are many different ways to play this game and come out with realistic results.

This. Either help the OP with his question or move on. There really does not need to be a discussion on the +/- of Guess Pitch in this particular thread.
