Can someone explain how to add / remove the Top 50 icon?

Basically, I believe it is calculated based on a combination of a prospects attributes and potential. It may be strictly based off of potential though I'm not 100%. It automatically adds it by the prospect name when the above is met and they are a perceived top 50 prospect in the game. You can't manually add it unless you tinker with a prospects potential/attributes.

Probably already rehashed before but does it seem to anyone else like too many closers make up the Top 50?

honestly its probably the most overrated thing in the game. i wouldnt worry about it

This is why I'd like a change in how this is done. Have 2 ways its implemented.
First way is the way it currently is, as the default.
Second option would be to completely turn them off and the abilitity to give the icon to whoever you want it on,
regardless of their age, potential, overall or anything else.
In my perfect world the top 50 would have 17 prospects in Single A, 17 in Double A and 16 in Triple A
and no more than 2 relievers in the top 50, if that many. Maybe 0 relievers.

i cant remember if it was The Show or 2K but back in the day i remember an actual list you could scroll to that had the Top 100 prospects. I'd LOVE to see something like that again! makes trading for targets a bit easier too
