I agree. The ideas you mentioned are step one for me, in getting franchise mode BACK to where it needs to be. Its really all that I care about at this point, now that gameplay and graphics are so superior. I'm hoping that we see some of that tomorrow. I fear that we won't though.

Because correct me if I am wrong (I have been playing The Show since 09) but other than the ticket prices and promotions stuff which had zero impact on your team in franchise mode, I have seen them add things (player morale, a new scouting system which some don’t care for, a new contract screen, trade finder, GM Goals, the radio show which I really enjoy, career stat tracking, advanced saber metrics like WAR and some others I might be missing).

I want more GM options that count and mean more to your team. Like a revamped and more robust minor league/player development experience. But Franchise mode was not better previously. Unless I am missing something? I think it has had incremental improvements each year.

Well, "better" and "more meaningful" have different meanings for different people. Of the things you mentioned, I'm a fan of the player morale and trade finder, but I find both to be minor additions. The contract screen isn't all that different to me, at least from what I remember. While I respect that the other things are ones people can enjoy, they have little to no meaning to me.

With the old Owner mode features, I felt like I was accomplishing something. Building towards a goal of making my franchise bigger and better off the field. It wasn't perfect but it was there, and I want it to be built upon. I want to earn sponsorships that add to my budget. I want to get stadium naming rights, a TV contract, and other things that make my team more profitable and/or more desirable place for players and coaches to come to.

I want the off the field aspects to be a game within the game, not just a process that you go through between seasons. I want player's agents to come to me with contract suggestions. I want a back and forth much better than we have now, both with players and with the GMs of the CPU teams. Make me an offer, let me counter, and have steps within that. Not just yes/no, its over.

Those are the things that are fun to me, and they're just as important, if not moreso, than actually playing the games on the field.

With us now having the option to start in the regular season instead of Spring Training I wonder if we can now start our franchise mode with a 40 man roster without the computer messing with the lineups. I just hope it isn't like Madden where it sims Spring Training.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope this isn't the case... Made playing Madden's Franchise a nightmare for me since I like have accurate OD rosters.

I'm liking quirks, just hope they don't have too much of an unrealistic influence on the stats of franchise mode. I did see in the presentation twitch stream the dodgers have like a 100-30 record, so hopefully if the quirks arent properly working by releaee day they are fixed in a future patch.

Well if I remember correctly the 2001 mariners finished with around 115 wins, and I felt that team was nowhere near the talent level the 2017 Dodgers will be at. So by the numbers you have presented if the Dodgers play .500 ball for the remainder of the season they will finish around 115 or 116 wins. Doesn't seem to far off.

Note: not a Dodger fan.

I agree that the quirks will make it more realistic, and they do have potential. However, I'm curious to see what else has been added in franchise mode on top of that because there are definitely things that I would have rather seen added to the mode.

For instance, better trade and contract options like front and back loaded contracts, more than 3 players allowed per team in a trade, potential for opt-outs in deals, non-roster Spring Training invites, etc.

Also, I'd rather see more added to a GM mode. More so just having more to do. Updating facilities, adding seats (stuff like before with ticket prices and whatnot), plus other ways of making money instead of just sponsors. Things like negotiating TV deals based on team performance and market. Attendance could also be affected by star power on the team vs. a team that is rebuilding with just a bunch of young guys. However, if those young players are top 100 prospects, there could be "star power" with that too. Just like people love to come out and watch a guy like Trout, but there is also a base that loves coming out to watch the new guys like Bryant, Seager, Correa, etc. when they first came up.

Lastly, it would be interesting/realistic if there was something like a seasonal stamina bar for pitchers and players. They have the current one, which is nice to make your guy wait and pitch 5 days later, but I'm thinking more for like teams like the Dodgers and Pirates, who when they brought up guys like Urias and Taillon, those guys weren't going to pitch 200 innings. With this a 6th (optional) rotation slot could be added in order to limit workloads when you have a young staff (like the Mets tried). This could tie into injury ratings to differentiate between guys that are reliable for 220 IP+ vs guys like Strasburg, who has good stamina per game, but won't hit 200 IP. The same could be said of top positional prospects that are called up and not used to playing a 162 game season.

This would obviously make you need to put way more thought into franchise, and maybe that's something most wouldn't want. Just an idea.

I could be wrong, but I remember as far back as maybe MLB the show 15 you could negotiate a TV deal that would pay out based on your teams success and market. I don't know, could have been further back.

I'm loving the player quirks and quick manage (I sim games for time sake, and occasionally watch big time games) but these seem to be the only improvement I'm excited for so far in regards to Franchise mode. I'm hoping the deep dive has some hidden gems of info.

I started playing The Show in 08 on the PS3, and it was in from that point until around 2012. At some point around there (I don't know the exact year), before the first year on the PS4, it was all scrapped and Owner mode was basically gutted. It was a real disapointment. I balked at buying the PS3 version in 2014, and only later bought it at a discount when I upgraded to the PS4 for the improved graphics.

Has it been announced anywhere how many different quirks there are?
I wonder if some of them are going to be assigned according to maybe a combination of attribute ratings. Like something with basestealers, someone who has a 90+ speed, 90+ steal ability and maybe a 90+ aggression.

People, let's not forget. Ont he Main Menu in Franchise Mode R1 takes you to other different menus that this video did not show. So cross your fingers for tomorrow because you may never know what's in those menus.

Man, I dunno...these player quirks scare me a little. I really hope they can be given and, perhaps more importantly, taken away by us.

Performs better when team is behind; performs better in 9th inning or later; good at driving in runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs...these are all versions of that folksy intangible people call "clutch," the existence of which is debatable.

I don't know how they determine who gets what, but ask any closer that will tell you they are more psychologically "there" if they start their own fresh inning to attempt to save a ball game, as opposed to entering with runners on, pitching earlier in a game, or pitching in a blowout of sorts. The numbers would often back that up as well (unfortunately, we don't have accessible splits like those).

Maybe these don't provide them a boost. Maybe instead they keep them at their highest peak, and everyone else gets a dip in performance if they're missing it. I don't know what runs behind the curtain though, and I won't pretend to.

To me, a quirk is more something like "pitcher throws to first more often/doesn't throw to first very often," "first strike swinger," etc.

There is no doubt these kinds of quirks would also be lovely to have. These are kind of the first things I think of as well.

Just from the Giants alone, Brandon Belt and Buster Posey should be top-spinning their pulled hits much more often than Hunter Pence and Joe Panik. If they had a little marker that indicates whether they hit with more top spin or back spin ("trajectory" was a nice little thing in MLB Power Pros, though I don't think it was for this purpose), that would be ever so special considering what bat-ball physics they have in the game now.
