How I basically play is, I let the catcher, pitching coach and pitcher call the pitching. Very rarely will I input on pitches. I call for bunts, steals and hit and runs. I will, but rarely over ride a def shift. Make substitutions, move players around if needed and then all the decisions outside of the actual game. I play in dugout view as I feel it really immerses me into the game. I also set my play to 4 sec, so I don't have to hit the (I don't even know what button because I never press it) whatever button to engage the next play. That is basically it.

Re: Manage only mode
I basically just hit the O button and let the pitcher and better do their thing. I do make defensive adjustments. If they are a pull hitter, I shift. Basically if the guy hits to a field 40 plus percent of the time I shift that direction. I hit and Run, Steal, only when ahead in the count. I make all my own lineups. I do 30 team control but worry about my team only for call-ups and send downs. When a guy gets hurt I place them manually on the DL and look at the minors for the best option to take his place. At the end of each month I look at the messages and determine if I want to promote that guy to the next level or not. I play with Nomo's sliders and have been doing so for 11 plus years on MOM.Comment

Re: Manage only mode
Hey guys just wondering how everybody plays the game this year?
Here's how i play when hitting i usually just hit play now or the equivalent of swing away. When men are on i will call steals, bunts, hit and run.
When pitching i will usually go with pitch aggressive, pitch to batter or pitch around. In some instances i will call for pitch placement aka High,Low,inside, outside.Usually wont set the defense but on occassion i will.I will also call pitchouts pickoffs and the such.
Just wondering how you guys play it?Do you just go play now and make subs?Or some combination of what i said?
I'm also curious because alot of are results are varied, which could be just from sliders not sure.

When pitching, it depends on count:
1-1, 2-0, 3-0 and 3-2 - I do nothing
3-0, 2-1 and 1-2 - pitch aggressive to get back to an even count or go for the K
0-2 - pitch around to try to get the batter to chase
If runners are in scoring position, I try to keep the ball low to limit extra base hits, RBIs and HRs.
I let the coaches handle shfts
On offense, it also depeds on count:
3-0, 2-1 - I'm taking
If there's a hitter's count with runers in scoring position or with 2 outs,, I'm swinging away
If I have speed on 1st and get a hitter's count, I like to try the hit and run.
Etc.Comment

Re: Manage only mode
How do I play? Full Broadcast, non-QC, Dugout camera view + 4 second delays and I can always button mash between plays when I need to speed up a game. On average each MoM game takes me about 2 hours to play.
At bat: I control a National League team, so yes I do bunt with my pitchers. But for the most part I don't do a lot of bunting for hits this year because it has not worked very well for my team and I stay away from suicide squeezes. When I start a game, I never swing on the first pitch of the game. I always take because I hate 1st pitch outs to start the games. Of course playing against a CPU I can get away with this. If I played against a human they would catch on real quick. After that whenever a batter has a 0-0 count, I let them swing away. However if the count goes to 1-0 and there is a man on 1B or nobody on base at all, I instruct them to take the pitch as I like to work the counts especially against the starters to get that pitch count up, plus a lot of relievers come in throwing balls for the first few pitches. But if there is a base runner in scoring position, I let the batter swing away regardless of the count. On 3-0 counts, if I have a good batter at the plate, the green light is on. But marginal hitters are instructed to take the next pitch until they get a strike or walk. If I have a reasonably fast base runner on 1B I often call for them to steal on 3-2 counts even when there are less than 2 outs. I do call for base steals, but I don't go crazy and I don't try and steal 3B because I have never had success in MoM games in previous years even with fast base runners. Also, if there are base runners on the corners with 1 or 2 outs and a decent hitter at the plate, I tend to not call for a steal as I don't want to take the bat out of the batters hands.
On defense: most of the time I let the catcher and pitcher call their own pitches especially when I am down in the count. But when the opposition has someone on 1B, I tend call for pitches low to a corner to attempt to induce double plays. Of course I had to stop doing this for the first few patches of the game since we were seeing too many wild pitches/pass balls in our games. But since wild pitches and passed balls have been toned down a bit after the previous patches, I am back trying to induce double plays when needed. I will call for high pitches (which are often but not always fast balls) as well for low pitches when I am up in the count and looking for a strike out. Also if there is a base runner on 1B, I watch to see if they take an extra step and if they do, I attempt to pick them off. Most of the time I fail, but the mindset is to prevent the base runner from having that extra step if they are going to run on me, plus in 30+ MLB 17 MoM games to date, I have 2 pickoffs and 1 base runner caught in a run down thanks to throwing over to 1B. Finally I will call for specific defenses late in a game, but for the most part I just use what the computer recommends.
I am convinced in MoM game play, that we the humans have the advantage over our CPU opponents. Of course we don't win every game and who wants to win every game. But unless you are playing with a really bad team, I am convinced that you can be very competitive over the course of a season with almost any team because we can do things with our line ups that the CPU opponents just don't pick up on or don't adjust for. IE: the CPU manager still plays fatigued and cold players whereas I bench my fatigued and cold players or pull fatigued players from games early when a route is developing. Over the course of a 162 season, this adds up. It would be really cool if we could use two controllers and have a offline MoM game against another human or have online MoM games against other humans. But unfortunately SDS does not seem to have the DEV resources or the will to make it happen.Comment

Re: Manage only mode
For you guys that call the pitching, if you say pitch aggressive, does the pitcher pitch aggressive for that pitch or the whole at bat?Really wish sports games played to ratings!

Re: Manage only mode
Got a little too much offense in an afternoon MoM game at Coors Field this evening. I took the series 2-1 against the Cubs, but they left Denver giving me two black eyes, a bloody nose and numerous kicks to the groin for winning the series against them. I am not too worried about my bullpen's fatigue levels as my starter went 4.2 innings before being pulled and none of the relievers pitched more than 1 inning. But I am worried about their confidence levels as I do believe the relievers confidence carries over for at least one game after being rocked and most of the relievers got rocked. The game has been very good to me these last two weeks, but that could change if I head into a 4 game series tomorrow against the Dodgers with a bullpen full of relievers with little to no confidence.
Here's the line score for the game.
CHI 18-23-0
COL 8-14-1
Ouch, that one hurt.Last edited by My993C2; 05-11-2017, 12:56 AM.Comment

Re: Manage only mode
Yesterday was an off day for my MoM team, so I haven't played a MoM game yet with Nomo's 5/14v2 set yet (the one he appears to be recommending). But I got about 10 QC Fast Play CPU vs CPU games in last night with the 5/14v2 set and the results I eye balled looked pretty good.Comment

Re: Manage only mode
Yes all games my team does not play are CPU vs CPU QC Fast Play games. On average this year they tend to be a few minutes longer than they were last year. This year on average they tend to take about 45 minutes to play even with QCs enabled and at least an hour without QCs. Oh and I don't watch the games. I start a game and come back when it's done and start another one. Because I work 8-9 hours a day and sleep another 6 or so, I usually begin to fall behind by the end of the work week. But the weekends or days off of work allow me to catch up and I try to stay about one day ahead of the calendar by the time a new week roles around remembering that many Monday and Thursdays do not have full 15 game schedules. Definitely not recommended to do if some else has a busy life with lots of distractions. But I do this because I like to compare apples to apples with the stats across the league.Comment
