Zero interest in WBC mode, waste of the devs time and resources in my opinion. I'd rather see that time spent on making Franchise better, as well as the overall game.

It would be nice for The Show to offer it but I'd think licensing costs for the Japanese players would be an issue. I also suspect they wouldn't include the Tokyo Dome venue and that would kill the immersion for me. I'd prefer they do it right (qualifying rounds, all stadiums and players, crowd songs and anthems, special commentary, etc) and release it as a standalone like Fifa has done with World Cup and Euro tourney games but I doubt there's enough of a market to warrant that.Comment

If anything, I wouldn't mind generic teams if SCEA can't pry away the license from Konami. Better yet, having say eight slots that are empty with the Diamond Dynasty creation tools would help with that issue along with historic teams, etc... That's really for the wishlist though.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Originally posted by Jon Arbuckle......Not having proper looking two-time champ Japanese players would be a negative for me personally though. Would kind of be like a World Cup game not having the rights to the Brazilian team.
This would be the same thing, granted Japan is a 2-Time Champ, but no one from Japan is a superstar. So having them be "created players" is not going to hurt the mode.
The international players that play baseball....are ALL in the MLB already and already in the game...so you will get to play with the biggest stars guaranteed.
So while I understand what you mean, FIFA technically does the same exact thing. They throw a generic black guy on the Jamaican Team (for example) and just make sure his last name is in the game. The commentators do not talk about them or reference them ever...
But it is another story when Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, etc...touch the ball.
MLB can do the same, and better because they can fill the Japanese team with generic names, and we can edit the names/equipment/physical appearance later....FIFA does not even give you that option.Last edited by El_MaYiMbE; 03-13-2017, 01:45 PM.Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
Love the passion the players and fans of the WBC have shown and continue to show. Most of these players would rather win for their country than their respective professional league teams. I'd love to have it in the game!Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela its a pride thing mostly (they are all already millionaires, and in MLB), but some other teams like Colombia, Israel, Italy....its the biggest stage they will ever play on. Most of them are career minor leaguers.....every game is a playoff game.
When I was at DR vs USA on Saturday that was largest crowd in Marlins Park history, completely sold out....85% of crowd was probably Dominican....next day sold out crowd again, DR vs Colombia....
Same stadium at 7 PM for USA vs Canada (to advance to next round) no one shows up....
So there is a market for the WBC, but apparently Americans do not care about their own team.
I would bet that everyone who does not care about this mode or voted no...has no rooting interest outside of the USA.Last edited by El_MaYiMbE; 03-13-2017, 01:56 PM.Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
I am blown away by the negative reaction to the WBC.
I grew up on Stratomatic Baseball, playing with cards and dice, and keeping score and stats in notebooks. And while my best friend and I would play out a lot of regular seasons, what really liked was shorter "What if" types leagues.
I used to play 4 team seasons made up of the all-stars of each division. We would also hold giant drafts of 6 team leagues in the basement, sorting all of the cards by position, drafting enough to have "minor leagues." My favorite favorite sim leagues in games like BB Pro and FB Pro, and other text based leagues was fantasy re-drafts.
I love the addition of of national teams, old timers, and anything that adds some flavor to the game. And the WBC has been so flipping great this year, it boggles my mind that you wouldn't want to pay it out yourself.Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
I voted yes...the WBC is insanely energetic. It's unparalleled to anything else going on in the sport of baseball and I would love to play the video game version of this tournament.
To add on to this, I would absolutely love some sort of integration to Franchise/RTTS where teams could sign foreign players and where unsigned players play in Japan or Korea like they do in real life.Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
Originally posted by Jon ArbuckleI understand all that but for someone who follows all of Japan's games during the WBC (I love the atmosphere at the Tokyo Dome and like the Japanese approach to the game) the failure to include the the team's likenesses would be a disappointment. Not including the Tokyo Dome would also diminish my interest in the mode. Obviously though, I'd be a niche consumer outside of Japan itself so the fact that I'd be disappointed wouldn't have much an impact on sales in the West.
Your approach seems quite reasonable. One issue is that it would probably make sense to release a game with a WBC mode in time for the tournament itself and I'm not sure that the developers would like having one less month to finish the game. The team likes to hype new features and it's hard to hype a sim mode for a tourney that just ended and won't be played again for several years. And public awareness of national teams in baseball just isn't very constant. It's not like soccer where there's year-round qualifying by all teams for both the World Cup and regional tournaments and thus good reason to include national teams in every year's soccer releases.
10000000% agree on marketability aspect of it. If the tournament is ending now, no point of trying to hype it in 2018 for example if it wont take place until 2021...agree.
But even MORE reason why it can fit in the game in 2021 (again provided the license is secured).
You can now build it up behind the scenes for 4 years. So in MLB 2021 you can release a brand new WBC mode that has been worked on gradually over 4 cycles and not crammed into 1 cycle.
However, I do not want it to be a one off, once it is in the game I would like to see it stay constant through out the series so your Franchise and RTTS players can participate in it in 2021, 2025, etc... (Franchise years not real years)
Every 4 releases however, the mode can be updated to add things like new players, new uniforms, new rules for that year, etc...
So it can start off really small and build up, but I would like the first steps to be taken, which are:
1. Secure License
2. Include it in future releases
3. Build every 4 years from there.Comment

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
I'd love to have it in The Show, actually. I'm also surprised that so many others wouldn't want it. This is obviously a hypothetical question, but the reactions are indicative of how Americans view the WBC vs. other countries, as El_MaYiMbE mentioned.
One thing I do think, is that it would increase exposure for MLBTS in areas outside of North America. I think they would eat that up. Especially, since PYS seems to be out of the picture (smh, Konami).
If this pipe dream was to happen, good news is they have 4 years to make it happen.

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
This is obviously a personal opinion and not necessarily relevant to the poll but....
Those who are not on the WBC wave are missing out and it is really unfortunate. The fact that so many people do not want to see it in the game, lets me know they aren't watching in real life. Because if you were, you would DEMAND it be in the game the way World Cup is in FIFA.
It is the best baseball you are going to see played probably all year. If you do not want to watch it because "it does not count" (it does) or because USA is probably going to be eliminated this week.....then I do not think you are a baseball fan....you might be an MLB fan or a fan of your team....but not a baseball fan.Comment

But in your opening post, you asked if it would be worth them not improving Franchise or RTTS or anything else really for it, and the answer is no for me.
And don't say that people aren't baseball fans for not watching. That is absolutely not true.Moderator

Re: Poll: WBC - Would you want it in?
If we put WBC on the roadmap, 4 years out, and Franchise, RTTS, DD, ball physics, player visuals, etc...get focused on for 3 years and on year 4 these modes and features are now 3 iterations of The Show better than the version that you will be playing in March 28th....
I think it would add value to shift SOME of that focus to the WBC.Comment
