Re: Spring Training in Franchise Mode

For me it depends on how Im feeling. Sometimes ai do sometimes I dont, sometimes I play a few. What I have done in the past is: For the first time through my rotation I use my starters for 3 innings. After that I go to a AAA starter. Then a major league reliever ten a minor league reliever(if I need more than that for any reason its whoever). 2nd time through the rotaion they go 5 innings(same-ish pattern). I skip the 3rd time through and let the AAA starters start. And 4th time through(apx. depending on how many games) I let them go as I normally would. For position players...for the 1st 5 games they get 2 ABs(starters) then subbed out for bench players and minor leaguers. 2nd 5 games they get 3 abs. Next 5 games I start the back ups/minor league guys. And the last 5-ish is whatever I feel like doing with them(usually 5-7 innings of play or so)

I play all of them and like Brian I rotate very similar to what he is doing. It gives you a good indicator of what you have in the minors.

I also play at a different park every game. I will play all of the minor league parks, historic stadiums, spring training fields and then start over. Keeps ST fresh and you get to see and enjoy all of the venues.

I usually use spring training for myself to get my own timing down and get the hang of the game again in games that don't matter. Also a great way to test out camera angles, controls, sliders, and other options and settings. With that said I'd love the day that the mode actually means something to my season.

I like to play a good amount of spring training games just to get a feel of all the players on my 40-man roster.

I play all 162 but for Spring Training I just put all my prospects that are on the 40-man in the lineup and rotation and simulate it. See if they can handle MLB yet based on their stats. Then set my roster based on what I want and based slightly on their stats.

This year I might give Spring Training a little more attention but after waiting for OSFM I like to get the regular season started as soon as I can

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the added any new ST ballparks this year. There was a moment on the stream where they were cycling through the ballpark categories and I only caught a glimpse of the same 2 from last year. I was hoping they would add a few more from The Show 13. Moonstone Park was the Jays home ST ballpark.

I have a question as someone who always sims Spring Training: does the AI handle ST realistically and use prospects, or is it handled just like normal games with standard lineups for the entirety?

Also do hot and cold streaks carry over from ST, or do they vanish along with the stats?

I play Spring Training to get back into the groove of the game and get used to it again. I also use it as a way to start off my Franchise while waiting for OSFM. Once OSFM is released, I'll start a new Franchise and skip ST, pretending that the ST I played while waiting was for the same Franchise.

You guys don't mind using a 'roster move' when using the 40 man for ST?

I love the idea of being able to play with EVERYONE in ST, but hate the idea of burning a roster move putting them in the minors to start the season.

Are there any workarounds to this that I am just unaware of?

I will skip the first one when I start my actual franchise with OSFM as rosters will already be decided but I will play subsequent ST's.

I usually play the first couple of games (and a few throughout) and then sim the rest but I still change up my lineups and pitching rotation to make sure I can keep track of all the guys and monitor any position battles. I only give my true MLB pitchers about 2-3 starts with the max being 5 innings and the rest is for the bottom half and minor leaguers. I try to get my position players about 30-40 at bats throughout the spring and the rest is for the minor leaguers and guys trying to make the roster. With 17 I'll probably quick manage the games I don't play to watch guys more closely.

Used to play all of it, now I only play as long as I need to solidify my MLB roster. That's usually still most or all of it. Shortest spring training I've done was 2/3rds.

I play all ST games for two reasons... my position battles and I use dynamic difficulty so it sets my level for Regular season.

I play every game. To get the feel of the new players and for position battles.

Plus I really dislike simming games

I usually play 1 or 2 games before I realize I have no clue how to properly manage that many players and sim it all.
