I could totally be wrong but it just doesn't seem logical to me.
Go look at the size of your MLB 16 install on your HDD and then go see what the download will be for MLB 17....They are in same ballpark (no pun intended).

Also quick Google search confirms what I said.

The point of "needing" the disc after you install it is obvious. You bought the game and they do not want you sharing the game with anyone else. It is a restriction, put there on purpose....not an oversight.

Now that I think about it, the disc thing might be an old style type of copy protection because if the entire game copied on to the system and you didn't need the disc then one could easily buy one copy of the game and then just have it install onto every friends system. So it could be something like that which is why the disc is still required.

But good to know this might change how I buy games forever.

My show 16 is a digital download, maybe someone who bought the physical copy can let is know the size of the install and we can compare.

I'm digital as there doesn't seem a whole lot of other options here in the UK.

I love the idea of digital downloads, as there really is no reason for games to cost as much if they cut out all the distribution and cost of retailers, but the reality is usually they are inexplicably more expensive than buying it in the shops. No idea why, there is no reason for it other than greed. MLB the Show at least seems to be one of the exceptions thankfully, as it's fairly reasonably priced over here on the PSN store.

I too have always been a disc guy but going to be going digital for this year's game as it turns out to be cheaper for me. I also recently went digital for nba 2k17 and it is much more efficient when wanting to switch games

The install size for the disc version of 16 was 50.48GB for me

Re: Digital copy vs Hard Copy

There are only a few different benefits between Digital and Physical These days.

Physical - Quicker install, you get the packaging and you can trade it in when you are done with it.

Digital - Preloading, no need to swap disks, and not needing to worry about scratched or broken disks.

There is no benefit to speed once in the game. Both the Digital and Physical versions fully install the game on the hard drive so there is also no benefit, space wise, to one version over the other.

The disk check may slow the physical copy slightly but probably not enough to notice.

I bought a PS4 pro last year and kept my original so that my son and I could play at the same time and having bought all digital really paid off. Whether we just want to play the same game at the same time separately or together online we only need 1 copy. And of course there's no swapping discs back and forth.
This is why i'm going digital for the first time.

I just bought my PS4 Pro, so i moved my regular PS4 to my room, so i can play the Show in both places without removing the disc or anything.

Then i also realized you can preload and play at midnight, and i don't know why i never made this decision before.

What I like about digital is that you can pre download and when it turns midnight in any time zone, you can play, so I'm playing at about 11pm my time.

I'm a collector so I usually go with the physical copy. I had the new South Park game preordered for digital so I could play the old version already on PS4. While they delayed it again and refunded my preorder. I'm not strongly considering using that credit for The Show instead of just re-preordering the South Park game. I have a trip planned so money is tight at the moment so this might be the best option for me. Haven't fully decided but I am leaning strongly in that direction. I've enjoyed reading everyone's opinions on this thread as it might help me decide.

i really, really want the Steelbook case of the physical copy but i really want the convenience of the digital copy because i honestly dont want to switch discs every night.

i wish there was an option to still get the steelbook in some way by itself lol.

yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

I wish PlayStation offered a deal for people who pre-ordered it digitally to play a day early. Similar to EA Early Access, but not a monthly subscription.
Just another incentive to go digital and give money directly to company with no middle man taking a piece.
