When you grew up with the Atari 2600 like I did and played all those games as well as everything that came after.....I guess you just have a massively different perspective about video games.

I don't compute this way of looking at video games.

Sorry I did not notice a jersey error. I guess I am too busy having so much damn fun playing the most realistic baseball VIDEO GAME I have ever played in my life and over 38 years of playing console video games that I would let the name on the back of jersey make me so mad that I would poo poo this genuinely fine game which no doubt was labor of love for this development team.

You know it's OK to point out some mistakes and uniform omissions as well as gameplay issues. We all have them and there is a proper form and way to communicate it. In fact there is a thread for it. http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ns-thread.html

And yes a game can be the greatest Sports game of all time with uniform mistakes. But this snarky way of doing it? Jeez man.

It does not change the fact of how incredible this game plays the sport of baseball on the console and the accolades it no doubt will receive this year. It is a tremendous accomplishment of truly taking this game to the next level like we have been waiting for on the PS4.

We got it Shownation. We got "that" baseball game we all have been day dreaming about in terms of game play and simulation. Is it perfect? Of course not.

    But damn......wow....what a freaking game.
I get the frustration with the road jersies. I'd be kinda choked if it happened to me, sure. I mean, it's not like Toronto's better unis from '07 or so are included instead of the ugly late '01 ones.

Let me pile on with the post, though, considering I have this same feeling with the "Squeeee!! New (insert brand name) gloves are here and now I can truly appreciate the reelz!" I go back just about as far as A&S with World Series '95, Griffey on the console, RBI on the NES and just having guys with faces is enough to make me smile. The ball physics are filthy in this game. Donaldson just put a double into the gap that broke like it was under a police light bulb for me. Bloopers actually drop now, line drives that used to head directly for the fielder now slice to the pole.

So far, four games in, it's pretty special. Even retro mode is pretty cool although I'll never play it more than the once I did. But that intro.... Wow.

Having a blast! Using pulse pitching, wow, timing that up is driving me crazy and I mean like messing with my eyes. Not sure I can do it much longer.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Three full games in the books, and so far, very much enjoyable.

I start with Armor's Slider set as a baseline, and typically tweak it to get to a broadcast-worthy simulation of baseball.

The first game I had three homeruns in the first inning, and when JBJ goes opposite field over the Monster, and hits it 447 feet opposite field... I need to immediately make some maneuvers. I dropped the power down one click, and that seemed to temper the crazy power numbers a bit. I usually play ten game sets, and make notes, and then do slider adjustments, but 450ft opposite field with a center fielder, was just not going to be acceptable.

The graphics (regular PS4 no HDR or 4K TV) are beautiful. Night games under the lights have the correct progressions of sun/dusk/twilight/night time, and the lighting is brilliant. Nice work.

Animations so far are really, really good. Smooth as silk, and another very impressive showing by the SDS Team. Bravo.

I lowered the fielder speed from 5 to 4. They were too fast, and it resulted in a herky jerky movement to the ball. Slowing the fielder down a notch, but keeping the reaction time at 5, allows the fielder to get a jump and pursue based on ratings, and slow outfielders will need to take smart routes to the ball. So far I am happy with that.

I lowered the pitch consistency and accuracy down to "0" for Human. I wrote extensively last year on trying Legend, but the game seemed to take exception to that, and make pitching a nightmare. I went back to Hall of Fame, but lowered the two human-based accuracy sliders to Zero. So far, realistic results and perfect pitch counts per batters faced.

My only gripe, and it has been the same one for the last six years...

We have gotten to the point, and Armor touched on it, that the graphics and the game play have surpassed anything I would have thought possible when I was playing Intellivision Baseball in the 80's I mean, what games have come to, is beyond reproach. However... If we are to be offered freckles and skin tones, based on the geographical distance from the equator, grass-blade directional color changes, and seventeen different skin pigments, that is all amazing.

But when those two players with perfect eyebrows and visible hair follicles run through each other in the field going after a ball... I have to finally ask, "when?" When do we no longer see bat boys passing through the third baseman on a pop-up, with no regard to physical laws of mass and space? Someday maybe?

I'll end what could turn into a three page dissertation on the subject, and this glaring oversight in no way takes away from the fun, or the enjoyment of the game. So far, I am happy to have shelled out my sheckles for this year's game.

I'll continue my slider hunt with seven more games to get the next test batch up, and report any new findings henceforth.

Aside from my perennial gripe about collision detection, I am enjoying this one immensely.

        The intro, sublime indeed.

Great post man! You are right on! Everyone should take the time to enjoy baseball heaven as we have never had it. Pure and simple if you grew up playing Stratomatic, Tony Larussa or any of the other classics then this is something you could only dream about back then. Sony San Diego your passion for the game of baseball shines through in this masterpiece. Great job.

I didn't really think what I said was snarky? I feel like just as you're able to voice your opinion of how amazing the gameplay is (and I haven't gotten to play yet so I can't speak for that), I should be able to voice my displeasure that something that was never an issue in previous versions suddenly got messed up and that they apparently don't plan to make it right?

Obviously the gameplay is the most important thing and if it's as good as you say then I'm thrilled and the game should be well worth a purchase, and I'm sure I'll play the hell out of it, I just don't think stuff like that should be ignored. Games have come a long way, to the point where we're able to kind of nit-pick about smaller things like that, which is great. Honestly I don't know if I've really ever had complaints about the actual gameplay of the show, which is why I always end up purchasing it. I just get discouraged when there are errors like that that seem quite avoidable, since it's been fine in previous iterations.

I didn't mean to start an argument or anything, I just wanted to bring a voice to an issue that I'm sure there are a number of Tigers' fans upset about. Just because a game is very very good in most aspects doesn't mean we can't criticize others.

I hope everyone has a blast playing 17 and it gives everyone what they wanted out of it.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

I've been critical of SDS the last couple years for not really seeing significant steps forward in the game. (IMO) But this is a huge step this year.

Graphics are on par with the top dogs out there.

                  Frame rate is much better.

Ball physics are literally a game changer. Seeing balls slice and hook into the corners is a thing of beauty. I'm also seeing choppers, Texas leaguers, line drives to the wall, outfielders not being able to track balls down because they are slicing away from them.

                  So many new animations.

Humanity AI is the real deal. So much more baseball-like.

Sounds are improved. Love the sound of the ball popping in the mit. Pretty sure that's been redone this year.

I hope I can get on the servers soon so I can crack some packs and get my bonus'.

Overall, best year over year improvement the franchise has seen.

No worries......I am sleep depraved and have a little piss and vinegar in me today.

Sometimes text can be cold and sterile and come across and be perceived incorrectly.

Again I have zero issues with pointing out omissions and mistakes.

But I can pretty much assure you once you play it......you will be on the GOAT wagon with me despite that glaring uniform mistake of tour home team.

                      Trust me on this one.

I get where both of you are coming from. The game play does make a lot of stuff a little more forgivible. But if the Tigers are YOUR team, you feel this mistake a lot more. Last year they messed up the 80sCubs throwback jerseys, with the home having red numbers instead of blue. While it bothered me I did still have fun. Guess this year Tigers fans will be the one annoyed by this.

All in all you both kept this from turning nasty and that make you both aces in my book.

The way outfielders field balls this year is much better compared to last year or previous years. I hit a ball with Cespedes over a diving Aoki, in previous years this would be a easy triple especially since Yo has decent speed. But Springer played it well, threw it to the cut off man and threw me out when I was halfway to 3rd.

I gotta ask this but I hope I don't come across as an *** but.... are you playing a spring training game with the nameless/numberless jersies?
