They are pitches in the dirt that dont even leave the plate or batters box and yet miraculously a guy not matter his speed can advance to the next base. ABSOLUTELY KILLS this game. Its not even liveable like some things are. You cant turn up consistancy because it just throws every other aspect of pitching off. I can not for the life of me find a combination pitching (control-consistancy-strike freq) that will combat this without making already strong pitching stronger. I currently have pitching at 4-5-2. This just has to be fixed next year. It just has to be. I dont care if you put out the exact same game next year with just this fixed.
Forme, I'd be interested to know what level and which rosters you are using?
Even though I've had some fun with the game I must admit I haven't settled into a long term franchise or set of sliders even after all this time with the game.

I'm on All Star using OSFM 1.75 I think it is. No attributes edited and default contracts. Its really pretty simple. There is a big difference between pitches in the dirt and a true wild pitch. Pitchers are designed to throw pitches in the dirt. IE getting hitters to chase. The catcher knows it's coming. The issue is in the game it is sone big surprise to everyone except the runner. Pitches go in the dirt. Runners don't even think of running if it stays around the plate.

The runners will literally start running like they know it's going to not be stopped before it's even clear whether or not the catcher won't catch it(not block, but catch). It's the same thing when the CPU knows that your throw to the base will be off target or bobbled so they push for the extra bag and even though the throw beats them before they even slide, your position player mysteriously has a 100% drop rate and can't get a tag.

I need to just go back to 16 because this game is just off this year.

To avoid more posts I'll just edit this. I just ran into some more frustration with this game. I am trailing 2-4 in the 6th inning, I went to pinch hit for my pitcher. Then before seeing a pitch I went to warm up a pitcher. The game glitched out and I had no option to warm anyone up, so I had to click a guy and only had the option of Put in Game. I couldn't back out of the screen. So I hit it and no one comes in thankfully. I go to warm up my pitcher again, same bug happens. The next half of the inning it puts in all of the pitchers I had selected to put in the game because of the bug so my bullpen is depleted and I am left with a cold pitcher on the mound. He gives up a solo HR to the first batter as he is cold and the count is 3-0. Next batter, 2-1 quick count walk. Next batter 3-1 walk. Next batter 3-0 hits a 2 run hr and it's 8-2 all of a sudden because of a bug that screwed me over.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all with this game.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

So I have run into what I would describe as a pretty big issue as it pertains to CPU pitching logic once rosters expand in September. If the CPU is tied or losing when they pull the SP (whether fatigue or injury) the CPU will turn to the SP's that just came up when rosters expanded. It has happened every single time the situation has presented itself. They will completely ignore the highly rated RP's in favor of the sub 70's rated trash that just came up. In a 4 game series I was leading or tied with Texas in 3 of those 4 games. In those 3 games I was either tied or winning in Texas brought in Connor Sadzeck (65), Chi Chi Gonzalez (67) and Mike Hauschild (67) completely ignoring the multiple 80+ rated MRP's. To top it off when Yu Darvish returned from the DL they left him rotting in the pen instead of inserting him back into the rotation, meanwhile when their SP got hurt one game without recording an out and having to leave the game they didn't bother to bring Darvish in which would have made a lot of sense, that's when they brought in Sadzeck and Gonzalez who combined to pitch the remaining 9 innings giving up 14 runs and 20+ hits in the process. If you run 30 team control you can fix this I'm sure but since I don't, I can't.

I tried switching sides and sitting them and warming up one of their regulars, problem is moment I switched back and the CPU threw a pitch they had already automatically set those guys down and gotten the trash pitchers back up to warm up. I tried injuring the poorly rated SP's that came up when rosters expanded and was met with an error telling me I couldn't due to either reaching the maximum number of injured players or my roster not having enough players available. I then tried to take away a SP's injury to make room and was met with the same message anyways. I can injure a SP that is still in AAA but not one that is in the MLB due to rosters expanding. It's infuriating, I have to micro manage the CPU more then ever before and even when trying to fix this I can't as the moment I switch sides again back to my team they undo everything I just did anyways.

So with 19 games left I was 0.5 GB of Texas for the division, was about to start a 4 game series at Texas and things were looking like they would provide for an exciting finish to the season. Then rosters expanded, I swept Texas, am now 3.5 games up on them for the division with 15 to play and all excitement has completely vanished. I don't ever remember having such glaring issues with fundamental things like this and of course its the first year I forgot to setup 30 team control so I can't fix any of it.

I really hope they tune this and fix it as it ruins the entire last month of the season, or more specifically once rosters expand.

AI manager logic issue... just played a 24 inning game..

The computer "manager" put in his closer (Tony Watson) to throw 155 pitches (!!!!) meanwhile they still had a guy in the pen, and kept talking about using position players..

Should look into the AI in this case maybe turning to a starter to pitch, or have a way to use a position player to pitch as they do in the majors..

155 pitches is even way more than a starter throws!

has anyone seen a huge increase in suicide squeeze plays lately? I saw a lot when the game first came out then they basically disappeared for a while. Now I've fallen victim to a squeeze my last 5 consecutive games. It's absolutely unstoppable from the AI. It's frustrating when they can bunt a 100mph fastball at the letters while I can't even get a sacrifice bunt down.

This is the buggiest, glitchiest game of The Show that I have ever played! For a minute, I thought I was playing MLB 2K11. All these little graphical "blips", bats freezing in midair, messed-up pitching motions. Then for the longest time, the glitch where they'd pull pitchers in the 5th inning no matter what. I'm still playing and enjoying the game, mostly because I love baseball so much, but this game gets buggier and buggier each year!

However, now that I'm married and work 45 hours a week, Quick Manage sure is a welcome feature!
Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!

Any news if they intend on finally addressing the wild pitch issue? It's been present since launch and nothing, more importantly it's not just the frequency at which they occur it's compounded by the fact that your catcher has no urgency to even attempt to throw the advancing runner out. I can't count the amount of cheap runs I've given up because someone has bounced a pitch and the catcher throws it like he's tossing it around the infield in pregame or after a strikeout. It would be nice to see someone actually address this, I can't believe that this many months after release it's being swept under the carpet like it doesn't exist.
