Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

It is a new era for both the MLB and the Miami Marlins. MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, has just announced that MLB will be holding its first ever fantasy draft with every current major and minor league player plus certain International players being up for grabs. It is also a new day for the Miami Marlins has former owner, Jeffrey Loria, has sold the team to Derek Jeter. With the change of ownership in the Marlins' organization comes a change in front office. Michael Hill will stay on as Marlins' President of Baseball Operations, but, Robert Osmond has been hired to be the Marlins' new General Manager and to help lead the team through the first ever MLB fantasy draft.

*For this fantasy draft I am using the OSFM V2.75 roster and am skipping Spring Training*

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

      Question for you guys...

Long story short, I'm starting my draft over, as I realized how much I don't want to play in the American League. It also felt cheap to trade two players taken in the later rounds for guys taken in the first 10 rounds. So the plan is to go with the Cubs, and live with what I drafted for at the very least the first half of the season (if not the entire 1st year).

I'm in the 13th round right now, and aside from my closer, it's time to build my bullpen. What are you guys looking for mostly in terms of attributes ? Is clutch really that important, or should I mainly focus on H/9, HR/9 ? What about control, where do you put that in the equation ?

There are a lot of good relievers available, but I'm afraid I'll only be able to pick one of the following:

      68 H/9 | 80 K/9 | 52 HR/9 | 93 CTR | 86 CLT | Glen Perkins
      77 H/9 | 82 K/9 | 41 HR/9 | 84 CTR | 88 CLT | Yimi Garcia
      76 H/9 | 74 K/9 | 83 HR/9 | 63 CTR | 73 CLT | Ryan Cook
      96 H/9 | 89 K/9 | 56 HR/9 | 54 CTR | 75 CLT | Carl Edwards Jr.
      72 H/9 | 89 K/9 | 61 HR/9 | 69 CTR | 72 CLT | Keone Kela
      75 H/9 | 83 K/9 | 70 HR/9 | 59 CTR | 71 CLT | Steve Cishek

I typically go with Keone Kela, as he's someone I grew familiar playing with these past two years...but I'm struggling to make the right choice here.

      Any input ?

Is that a typo on Carl Edwards Jr. (96 H/9)? If that's legit then go with him

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well I'm officially joining the fantasy draft franchise discussion...

I decided to take the Atlanta Braves and I was given the #5 pick. I was giving myself 6 picks to make (3 positional guys and 3 pitchers) and can only take 3 A POT guys. The 7th pick I made and I took prospect Michael Kopech because I'm a fan of him.

          1st Round: RF Bryce Harper
          2nd Round: SP Gerrit Cole
3rd Round: SS Carlos Correa (no idea how he was here)

*I only allow 3 A POT players that I draft, so I had to go B guys for the next 3 picks.

          4th Round: SP Carlos Martinez
          5th Round: LF Michael Conforto
          6th Round: SP Michael Wacha
7th Round: SP Michael Kopech as my A prospect guarantee

Then the CPU drafted the rest of the team for me...and here's the lineup that resulted:

          ___________________________

The key prospects that I have:

CF Austin Meadows - A POT
SP Michael Kopech - A POT
          1B Matt Thaiss - B POT
CF Anthony Alford - B POT
SS Isan Diaz - B POT
SP Alec Hansen - B POT
RP Tanner Scott - B POT
SP Taylor Hearn - B POT

Really not much depth with the farm system. It's great to have two Top 50 guys (Meadows/Kopech) but outside of them it's very very thin. Thaiss looks to be an impact bat and Alford has a chance to be a player. Outside of those four I don't know if anybody ever makes an impact.

Check out the link below to see the complete Top 10 players from all 30 teams to see how some teams ended up. Keep in mind this is the player ratings after about 60 games because I just didn't think to do this immediately after the draft.

          Notable pen guys:
Ernesto Frieri: 24.1 IP 20 K and a 1.85 ERA 1.03 WHIP (back to glory days I guess)
Hector Rondon: 0.61 ERA 0.89 WHIP in 14.2 IP and 14 K with 12 saves

          Summary
I've been having a blast playing with these guys. I am utilizing the Play 1 Sim 5 method so I rotate through each guy in the rotation. Bryce Harper is having the most unreal season I've ever experienced. There are still 100 games left so he could fall off hard but I'm thinking he runs away with MVP over the remainder of the season. I've had a relatively healthy team with only my starting catcher and #5 starter go down with injuries. I know somebody will go down soon and I just hope it's not a starter as I have no depth there. I can manage to lose somebody in the lineup not named Harper/Correa.

No typo. So you're saying I should focus more on H/9 more so than anything else ?

That H/9 K/9 and clutch all sound great to me. It's such a staggering difference between the rest for H/9 that I'd take him based on that.

Decided to finally start my fantasy draft franchise for the year. I was lucky enough to get the #2 overall pick and selected Mike Trout to be the face of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I though my draft went pretty well while also not taking advantage of the computer drafting ability.

After starting several different franchises i think i have finally found my calling. I am back with my Marlins. This team has a chance as going for several years. i have one player over the age of 30. i had the 24th overall pick in the first round... so here is my team.

Decided to start a fantasy draft franchise and it is the most fun I have had in a while. As the Astros, this is the team I ended up with:

                        C - Yadier Molina - Carlos Ruiz
                        1B - Anthony Rizzo - Mike Napoli
                        2B - Jhonny Peralta - Ketel Marte
                        3B - Travis Shaw
                        SS- Trevor Story
                        LF - David Dahl
CF - Jake Marisnick - Jon Jay
RF- Giancarlo Stanton - Hunter Renfroe

                        Rotation:
                        Steven Matz
                        Carlos Martinez
                        Julio Teheran
                        Lance Lynn
                        Clayton Richard

                        Bullpen:
                        Mike Minor
                        Brian Ellington
                        Ryan Madson
                        Joaquin Benoit
                        Jeremy Jeffress
                        Koda Glover
                        Andrew Miller

I'm pretty satisfied with this team. After the first three games I am 2-1 and like i said it's the most fun I've had in a while.

I'm sitting in 1st place with my Braves and as I mentioned I couldn't stand to lose Bryce Harper...well he went down with a torn hamstring. He's out 2-3 months so I'm hoping I get him back before the playoffs.

I'm 4 games up I believe and every team in the NL East is .500 or better so it's going to be a battle. I think I'm about 110 games into the season at this point as I just started August.

I completed a trade for some bullpen help. I snagged RP Trevor Rosenthal who is in the last year of his contract with the Reds. I gave them a low B (SS Carlos Rodon) and a high C (SP AJ Puckett). Rosenthal was having a mediocre season but I liked his potential (which actually had the red down arrow but was still a B).

I will have a more in depth update soon. Having a blast but want Harper to get back ASAP.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Just finished an insane game. Carlos Martinez got his second start and to say he struggled would be an understatement. He gave up 8 runs in 6 innings. I had to stay with him for that long because I didn't want to completely destroy my bullpen. When he left, we were down 8-2. In the 7th inning, we EXPLODED for 6 runs to tie it up 8-8.

I thought that momentum would carry over to the 8th and 9th inning, but it didn't. The Royals scored a run in the 9th inning to win 9-8. Tough loss.

After 7 games we are 4-3, our offense can be absolutely deadly at times, but we definitely aren't perfect. Jhonny Peralta is hitting .568. He hit for the cycle one game, my first one ever on The Show.

David Dahl is hitting extremely well and Trevor Story has been outstanding for me.

The craziest one, though, is Anthony Rizzo. In 7 games, he has 5 hits... and ALL of them are home runs. The only place he gets base hits is over the fence lol

I made the playoffs as I finished 92-70 to win the NL East with the Braves. I had 4 guys hit 30+ HR and nobody get 100 RBI. It was an all-around team effort with the offense. I was last in SB's as I have zero team speed.

Game 1 of the playoffs I host the Phillies who have a sick lineup (Bogaerts, Dozier, Donaldson, Fowler, Zobrist, M Reynolds) and holy heck it was a freaking slug fest. They go up 2-0 in the 1st off my Ace Gerrit Cole and then I smack around Wainwright in the bottom of the 2nd putting up a 6 spot with 0 HR's. They get another 2 to make it 6-4. I end up pushing the lead to 9-4 and then they came back to load the bases down 9-8 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and a full count...Hector Rondon gets a man looking...1-0 Braves.

They were hitting lasers off everybody. Fortunately my offense was as equally as impressive.

Game 2 is going to be fun as Carlos Martinez goes against Tijuan Walker.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well I had a glitch occur in Game 3 vs the Phillies as I was up 2-0 in the series.

Top of 1 I was hitting and their pitcher wouldn't throw the ball. I said "eh I'll just go ahead and sim half an inning. Maybe this will clear it up." Well bottom of 1 the Phillies won't even swing at the ball. So in essence I could've had a 27K perfect game if I wanted...but I would've had to sim all my hitting.

So I just decided to sim the game. Ended up losing 5-4. I don't auto save and didn't save after game 2 and I didn't want to lose that Carlos Martinez gem.

Game 4 I come out and blow them away. My offense in the series was completely ridiculous and it had me thinking that I was on the wrong skill level.

I then start the NLCS with the Dodgers. Having the best record in the NL I had HFA. I go up 2-0 quick and feel like I'm on easy mode again. Well the Dodgers turn it on in the 5th and I wind up losing the game 7-3 I believe.

Game 2 rolls around and I get whooped again.

Game 3 rolls around and I had a solid lead only to lose it and lose again.

So now I'm down 3-0...I think the sliders are juuuuuuuust fine lol

Game 4 goes down this afternoon and hopefully I'm able to make it a series again. I'm not ready for this season to be over!
