Ugh... Cease is my #2 prospect. Not sure I can. My feet are getting awfully cold.

Underwood is a 40 FV guy. That's like a middle reliever profile. What if we find an arm between these 2. Clifton?

I'll do Baez, Jiminez and Cruz. Not Cease.

Clifton might work. Just can't stomach giving Baez and my top two prospects.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

Just got home so here's all the numbers:

Cubs (57-36) are first in the NL Central by 8.0 games. Athletics (39-56) are last in the AL East, 15.5 games out of first. It's July 19th.

            Javier Baez: .286/.347/.599, 14 HR, 15 2B, 40 RBI. He has a 2.1 WAR

Sonny Gray: 3-6, 4.44 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 62 K, 20 BB over 71.0 IP. He was on the DL to start the year. His WAR is 1.1 and his FIP is 3.94.

Sean Doolittle: 1-3, 4.55 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 28 K, 6 BB. His WAR is 0.4 and his FIP is 3.47.

Eloy Jiminez started the year with a 59 overall rating. He's now a 62 and #33 on the game's Top 50 prospect list. Obviously an A potential player.

These make me feel like Baez and Jiminez are way overpaying. Gray is a B potential player and is already 27. My feet are getting a little more icy, but I'm still probably willing to do Baez, Jiminez, and Clifton (C rated by the way), for Gray and Doolittle.

Baez, Jimenez and Clifton would be fine, I think. Maybe at a 4th piece that's a low level lottery ticket.

Underwood is a lottery ticket at this point, but given the stats this year I think the three I'm selling should suffice.

You're going to get cold feet for any trade that gets you a top of the rotation piece. Like we went over, you pretty much have to move Baez and Jimenez since you won't move others. Unless you want to trade Addison Russell? That would change things. But again, aces are expensive and you've tied our hands by crossing multiple valuable pieces off the table

But you'd agree that Baez, Jiminez and Clifton gets it done? Especially given Gray's 2017 in my franchise? I doubt he's the #1 pitching target in real life if his numbers were like that. I could be wrong.

Most likely making this move. If I don't I'll just ride out what I've got this season and try and make a move in the offseason.

Since we've gotten a deal for Gray/Doolittle ironed out. Do you think the same players get Gerrrit Coke or would trading in the division require more in your opinion?

I do not think the same guys get Cole. Cole will cost around the asking price for Quintana and Archer. Plus the whole in-division/rival tax

Then that settles it. I have a week to decide. Trading Javy and my #1 prospect will be tough. If I don't I'll be dealing in the offseason. I haven't looked to see who might be available in the offseason and there's still a shot I re-sign Arrieta. However, much like trading, I like to keep it as realistic as possible.

In the game I'm sure I could probably just re-sign Arrieta within my week of exclusive negotiations. But we all know that's not going to happen in real life. I'll let him go to free agency and then (using 30-team control) have a few big-markets offer him a ridiculous contract. I'll offer one as well, and if he signs, cool.

I did the same thing with Fowler last year. Had a couple teams offer him way more than what I did, but he re-signed with the Cubs.

All depends on how he's playing. Even if he's hitting really well, his contract and bad defence limit his value.
