Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

This isn't the typical "who do I give up to get _____?"

I am wondering if I buy low cost guys, stand pat, or go big.

I am the Braves, and sitting at 23-19 and other teams are starting to make moves. Currently I am 3 games behind the Marlins, with the Mets and Nationals right there with me. My most glaring holes are 2B, 3B, C, and a front line starter. For context here are stats of guys I would like to replace in the starting lineup or bump down in the rotation.

C Tyler Flowers .262 avg, 1 HR, and 13 RBI
2B Brandon Phillips .253 avg, 2 HR and 9 RBI
3B Adonis Garcia .299 avg, 3 HR and 16 RBI (just don't like the guy even though he has gotten hot)
SP Julio Teheran 2-5 record, 4.88 ERA. 8.9 K per 9. He has underperformed and is my worst SP. Doesn't really make sense to move him though. Garcia and Colon have done slightly better than I hoped with mid 3 ERAs. Folynewicz is really pitching well. 2-2 with a 2.97 ERA. 8.51 K/9.

I could also use a closer. I actually promoted Rhiner Cruz to the spot after everyone else would do terrible in the role. He is 6/7 in save chances and has a 1.35 ERA...for now.

I should note that I am 29th in the MLB in HRs and 28th in RBI.

With a team on the upswing like this, it doesn't really make sense to trade the veterans for prospects, but I don't think you blow up the farm either.

Anything really jump out to you folks? I've found your input to others to be very fair and interesting. Here are teams that would be likely to sell, I can provide stats for anybody on their teams if needed.

Toronto 22-22 but lost Stroman, Barney, and Travis for at least three more months each with Stroman at 6plus months with a head fracture (Matt Kemp did that).

      TB:16-29
      CWS: 18-25
      Min: 10-32
      Tex: 18-26
      Sea: 18-26
      Hou: 17-27 (no clue how)
      Pit: 20-23
      Cin: 14-29
      Col: 19-25
      SD: 14-32

Those are the teams out of it, excluding the Phillies, because I know all about you in division penalties. :-)

Sorry for the long post, it just seems you all appreciate more info. I appreciate any replies.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

        Hi,
So I am playing as the twins this year. I am not expecting to be competing towards the deadline so will be looking to move Santana, Santiago, Perkins and Dozier. I know any deal depends on stats and teams in contention. But just on value would I be able to make deals for any of the following:
        Mallex Smith OF Rays
        Alex Wood P Dodgers
        Kike Hernandez IF Dodgers
        Raul Modesi 2B Royals
        Hunter Dozier 3B Royals

Obviously not after all just some players I'm interested in.

I want to trade for Charlie Blackmon and I'm willing to move Stroman, but I want the Rockies to add, but I don't know how much. How much is reasonable?

Also if I end up going the way of the Jays this year and have to trade Donaldson and Bautista then what would I be looking at in return?

In off-season one. Signed Cutch to the Mets, 3yr deal. Kimbrel went to the giants(head scratcher, still have melancon), JD Martinez to the Cubs (schwarber traded), Lucroy to AZ, T.Ross to Sea, Blackmon to TX ... but the big signing was Jake Arrieta to tge Dodgers in a head scratcher.. rotation is Kershaw, Arrieta, Maeda, Ryu, Hill.. still have Urias in AAA and didnt use him in the bigs last season either..

There anyway they would move him with this log jam? And whats the prospect package look like? 2As?

From outsider perspective, I don't see where you're broken. 50 games in a your C is batting .260+ (what's that make his OBP, .310"ish"?) and it may be a stretch with I would wager B. Phillips OBP is in the 320-330 range. You're right to let Tehran pitch his way out of it and, bluntly, do you want to win some games or play with guys you like? (it's a honest question, you're supposed to have a little fun playing the video game)

You are exceeding expectations for a team that was framed to have holes to fill over the next 2 years because your farm is bursting with guys you need to give a chance. Pick up a very good bullpen piece (Holland, Diaz, Colome depending on current stats in your franchise) and a thumper to help that offense along (how are you doing with Runs Scored in comparison to the league?) and see what you can put together. Small upgrades, help is on the way.

P.S. if you use the search function for the thread you will find lots of names that could fit your needs and a general idea of what they will cost. Narrow it down and put some data with them and one of the guys will jump in a help close a deal or two. There are a couple good Braves fans floating around that could help with some realism thoughts.

Dozier to TB was talked about yesterday (go back 5-6 pages or so) for Honeywell and Smith with Dozier pushing a 3 WAR (don't quote me, it was in the post... I remember only because I shed a tear when the deal came up). The Rays really (really!) have to be making a push though for it to make sense. Otherwise, they stand pat and play with what they have that put them in a position to win. You could easily fit that into the Dodgers though. I don't see KC moving those guys. You've got a couple pieces there but nothing that jumps out and says "win now" to anyone.

Especially after signing Arrieta, the Dodgers are going to need cheap innings somewhere. Carrying 6 starters for a playoff caliber team is like having half the lottery ticket already filled out for you.

I could swear we just did this. Bluejays09 was it you? Again, not to put you off but put Blackmon in the search function and if the exact deal doesn't come up, give some lines (plus in game WAR) on both and we will get it done tonight. It's come up too much not to have a general consensus on it.

What are thoughts on Free Agency? Is it realistic for me to pursue Harper when I use the Rangers? Or should I line up Free Agency where Harper signs with someone more realistic like the Yankees?

Also, I plan on hopping back onto my franchise in an hour. Any input on my previous posts?

I think you should be the Yankees or Phillies if you want a shot at signing Harper because those two teams have contracts coming off of the books. I also say this because the Rangers just don't have money to sign Harper since they have Andrus, Choo, depending on if you re-sign Darvish and Lucroy, Odor has some money locked up plus others

I'll still be my Rangers but I'm trying to keep the first trade deadline and off-season fairly realistic. I'll likely control the Yankees for that signing. I'm trying to execute a few trade deadline deals for other teams as well.

In an effort to make it easy on you and save time getting you a response (I looked earlier and thought you were working with somebody), below is a quick run down of how it could look. Since it's CPU-CPU trading, you can use deals we've already discussed or the most recent rumor you are comfortable with. With these kind of deals, all you have to do is be in the ballpark (no pun intended).

                            Q - Cubs/Yankees
                            Dozier - Dodgers/Giants
                            Moose - Marlins
                            Odorizzi - Astros
                            Casilla - Tigers
Melky - give him a pop quiz and if he passes, ship him off to the Blue Jays.

You've got a pretty good idea at this point what we're doing and how some of us do it, put your GM hat on...you're not going to cheese the CPU.

I agree with this. I initially brought up trout and had a large discussion "which is what I thought this forum was for" and then it got brought up by someone else and I responded a couple times and was accused of continually bringing it up "when I didn't" and said a few things that I regret saying and gt blocked for the first time using my account in 4 years and have tried to get in touch with the admin but they refuse to hear what I have to say. But I do agree it is about giving advice instead of telling people what to do. I didn't make a lot of trades because of this discussion board which I have liked for this year playing the show because I have more realistic trades but I am the type that will push trade limits to try to make my team the best which is why in years past the comp has gottten screwed in trades but this year I thought I'd try to use this thread to keep me honest.

Both Phillips and Flowers are at .298 OBP. I really suck at drawing walks. I am also toward the bottom of the league scoring runs. I'm not sure exactly where to look though. I really think an affordable power bat is my biggest need. I thought about maybe Brad Miller? I know he has a little team control left (2 years after this season) so the price goes up some. Tampa Bay has called up Daniel Robertson who is out playing him and have Beckham and Duffy playing shortstop. Miller is batting .238 with 5 HR and 14 RBI. I was thinking Wisler who has a 3.12 ERA in AAA but only a 2-4 record. If that isn't enough, I would throw in Alex Jackson to add OF depth in their farm. I have no clue how close this would be but he would be my first target.

My second choice would be G. Soto from CWS. He is batting .300 with 5 HR and 17 RBI.

I suck at making fair offers, so do your thing, boys!

                                Thanks!
