Pitch speed?
First off, let me just say that I believe this is probably the best baseball game that I've ever played. The amount of refinements in a one year cycle is absolutely incredible. The Show generally feels like the same game every year (with improvements) but 17 really "feels" like a different game. Nothing is without flaws and this game is not exempt. I expect all the "bugs" to be squashed in a timely manner as they always are every year. My issue I'm afraid is probably not a bug but was done with intentionally. I already know I'm in the minority but I love to crank the pitch speed to the max. I'm a middle-aged guy but my eyesight and reflexes are very good. If someone is throwing 98 mph I want that to be reflected in how fast the ball gets in on me. I've noticed in previous years batting on the zone setting that my "poor placement" of the PCI because of the pitch speed led to jam shots that produced some great hits (bloops). This brings me to my issue. The pitch speed in 17 has been reduced so much that depending on certain factors it looks like a beach ball is coming over the plate maxed out Imo. I have been OCD with this for days now trying to configure a setting that replacates a faster pitch speed. If I recall MLB 09 was the last game that the ball truly came in "hot". Every year after it has been decreased more and more. I'm not saying anything definitively (thinking out loud) but with the popularity of these DD type of modes I think things like pitch speed and batting contact have been adjusted to accommodate new comers to the series. There's something that I can't quite put my finger on but something just feels slightly off. If you pitch from the broadcast angles with the pitch speed maxed it looks like the ball actually floats in there. Since sliders don't ramp pitch speed up enough for my liking I've started to tinker around with camera angles to come up with something that works for me, but I haven't been successful as of yet. The Fish eye view for whatever reason is the closest to what I'm looking for. Although, the pitcher looks like he's pitching from the infield lol, the ball comes in with some smoke. It's not what I'm looking for exactly but I may have to settle with it. I know I'm in the minority here but does anyone have any thoughts?Tags: None -
Re: Pitch speed?
I agree that the pitch speed has been reduced greatly, unfortunately, but it is what it is. I currently am rolling with 10 pitch speed for both and wide hitting camera. I have been switching between wide and retro. I'm 34 btw, not quite middle aged.
PS: Changeups are a absolute killer this year!Last edited by JayD; 03-31-2017, 11:12 AM. -
Re: Pitch speed?
I had been playing 16 in RTTS a lot before 17 came out, so my timing was good and ready for the new game.
I had to increase the slider one notch from what I had it last year (which was 3 from the highest), it does seem like they've reduced pitch speed. But it seems good to me now.
Playing a baseball game where it looks like slow pitch softball is the complete antithesis of immersion for me. Can't stand it.Comment
