    Best team to rebuild?

    - Assume OSFM as the roster file (we don't know the ratings but we'll know the players, etc for the most part)
    - I trade older players (30+) right off the bat regardless of rating
    - The worst off the farm system the better
    - I want a challenge really (but ideally don't want unrealistic expectations like playoffs for the Phillies within first 3 seasons last year)

If after all is said and done and the team that would fit is the Diamondbacks then that's a win/win as that's who I root for (and I know our farm system isn't the best cause of some horrible trades...)

    Re: Best team to rebuild?

farm system according to Baseball America (in parenthesis, what the MLB team is ranked in the Show*)
    30-Angels(15)45
    29-Marlins(16)45
    28-D'Backs(22)50
    27-Orioles(18)45
    26-Royals(17)43
    25-Tigers(12)37
    24-Giants(5)29
    23-Rangers(13)36
    22-Twins(27)49
    21-Mariners(10)31

then I reorder them based on most points
    Arizona edges Minnesota 50-49
congratulations, your team is the most inept!
    just kidding,
    but seriously, the D'Backs stink.

On one hand, that's what they get for completely rejecting sabermetrics.

On the other hand, sweet, that's where I got drafted in RTTS. It's the second coming of 1972 Steve Carlton!

        Re: Best team to rebuild?

just to satisfy my own curiosity, I decided to look at the teams based on their big league squad, then add in ( ) their farm system ranking.
        My conclusion:

        Worst 10 rated teams
        30-Padres(9)39
        29-Reds(13)42
        28-Brewers(8)36
        27-Twins(22)49
        26-White Sox(5)31
        25-Rockies(10)35
        24-A's(17)41
        23-Phillies(6)29
        22-D'Backs(28)50
        21-Braves(1)22

same result, D'Backs and Twins are neck and neck.
Now watch 'em play each other in the WS in 2018 lol

        EDIT-ranking between the two lists
        1-D'Backs 50 points
        2-Twins 49
        3T-Marlins, Angels, Orioles 45
        6-Royals 43
        7-Reds 42
        8-A's 41
        9-Padres 39
        10-Tigers 37

I've been trying to talk people into the idea that the rebuild is not the most challenging project in a sports game.

What is: taking a middle of the pack team and determining whether to head up or down...

And I'll give you a hint: you won't know for sure until around the middle of May.

          Rise above the rebuild cliche'!

And turn off GM contracts so you won't get fired for going the Theo Epstein route.

I would have to say Pittsburgh with the likes of Tyler Glasnow (RHP), Austin Meadows (OF), Josh Bell (1B/OF), Mitch Keller (RHP), Kevin Newman (SS).

Add a couple more pieces to the puzzle by trading Freese/McCutchen maybe? They're a solid young team with a bunch of up and comers.

I play FIFA where I take a 4th tier English team to the EPL. Not the same but in a sense it is.

Hey we're 1-0! xD But yeah all our stars are 30+ too so it'll be a complete gutting which should help rebuild the farm system but have some rough early years.

I agree. While I think the Rangers are slightly above "Middle of the Pack", there is a realistic chance that Texas is dealing players for prospects in May. Darvish, Lucroy and Gomez are all pieces that Texas could be sending out in an effort to complete a quick 2-3 year rebuild. With that said, they could also be in a position in which they're depleting the rest of their farm to try and acquire a #2 or #3 pitcher at the deadline to try and make the best of whatever is left of their Championship window. I'm really excited about the options I have in playing with them this year.

Here I give the same treatment to those middle of the roaders, which path to choose make these teams extremely intriguing: win now at the expense of prospects, or trade away a big name for the risk of a future star. You can royally mess up a franchise if you choose wrong.

it would be really easy to mess up the Orioles Angels Royals and Marlins, you have little margin for error. The Yankees seemingly would be the easiest to turn into a Dynasty. IMO
