What exactly is Showtime in RTTS?

I'm not exactly sure what it's purpose is. When I'm on base I see RT Showtime and when I'm hitting it pops up. When I'm on base and I hit it my player steals. When I'm hitting it pops up but when I hit it nothing happens.

What exactly does this feature do?

Helps you with timing. Gotta time the hit right. Gotta time your jump right. And you still need the stats to back it up.
